You know that if a movie catches our attention, we tell you so that you can have it on your radar. Long Weekend is definitely one of those movies. We had the pleasure of speaking with Lauren Culjak, the composer who made the wonderful soundtrack to this film possible. Do you want to know what she told us?
Here we go!
Before our interview, what is Long Weekend about? To find out, here’re the synopsis and trailer.
Long Weekend is a 2021 American romantic comedy directed by Steve Basilone, who also wrote the screenplay. The film stars Finn Wittrock, Zoë Chao, Damon Wayans Jr., Casey Wilson, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and Jim Rash and tells the story of a down-on-his-luck struggling writer named Bart (Wittrock) who meets Vienna (Chao), an enigmatic woman who enters his life at the just the right time.
And now, we leave you our exclusive interview with Lauren Culjak, whose artist name is KOTOMI (named after her mother’s Japanese name) and previous credits include composing for Rick and Morty, the acclaimed Hulu series “Love, Victor“, which was Hulu’s most watched drama in its premiere week in 2020, and the CW series “Nancy Drew.” She has also composed for national brands like Disney, Google, Toyota and AT&T to name a few.
As you can see, we wanted to ask her not only about her experience in this film but also as a composer in an industry that is not easy at all, apart from being interested in her new projects. Also, having such a long and successful career, we believe that she is the ideal person to advise those little or not so little minds who dream of being composer.

Lauren is magnificent. Really, she’s amazing. Her career success is fully deserved but she is so humble and so close, so sweet. Sometimes, it’s difficult for an artist with so many successes and work behind her to be so open and having a one-to-one conversation in such a natural way. But Lauren is the kind of person that her success didn’t change her one iota, she has that special light that few have and we love her for it.
We can’t wait to follow Lauren in her next projects and I hope we have the opportunity to talk to her again because this interview is one of those that leaves you wanting more.
Meanwhile, you can find the Long Weekend score here as well as some of Lauren’s other compositions. And here’s a link to her songs as well, and her YouTube channel.
