Big Sky 2×15 “The Muffin or The Hammer” was another episode that brought a whole lot of drama but also a few eye roll inducing moments. Let’s get into our review, shall we?
The Shit is Hitting The Fan
Big Sky 2×14 “Dead Man’s Float” ended with Jenny being confronted by Jag and Ren’s henchman Dhruv. It really did seem like Jenny was going to be in big trouble but in Big Sky 2×15 “The Muffin or The Hammer” she proved us wrong.
Jenny does a lot of questionable things, but she does think quickly under pressure. We will say the method of defense she chose was a rough way to go. When Dhruv confronted Jenny, she was down in the drug lab snooping around so naturally her only weapon ended up being the drugs. In a quick and extremely dangerous move, Jenny doused Dhruv with Fentanyl and he died immediately.
Ren, Jag, and Travis end up discovering Dhruvs body and quickly scour the property to find his killer. Travis runs into Jenny, and she tries to convince him to come with her because she has a feeling it’s his last chance to get out from under the Bhullar Cartel. Travis being Travis, refuses and sends her away.
Ren and Jag were devastated by the loss of Dhruv and that really shocked me. Like, I know that they care somewhat about certain people working for them, but they were deeply affected by the loss. When word gets back to daddy Veer, he’s also upset, and he makes Travis the knew Dhruv. He wants him to track down Dhruv’s murderer and get rid of them.
As Jenny is reeling from her brush with death and what she did at the Bhullars, Cassie has returned in Big Sky 2×15 “The Muffin or The Hammer.” Upon her return, she quickly rushes to Jenny’s side to offer some sage advice on the whole Travis/Bhullar Cartel situation. Jenny has finally come to the realization that Travis is not going to give up his undercover mission for her no matter how much she asks him to.
Travis has made his choices and unfortunately, he has to live with all of them. Jenny takes her information to Tubbs and gets a warrant to bust the Bhullars, but it doesn’t go as planned because you got it, the drugs and the lab are poof gone as if they never existed. Wee we surprised by that? Absolutely not.
All is not lost though because a new lead presents itself in Big Sky 2×15 “The Muffin or The Hammer” when Poppernak finds out the Reed Colfax Truck which has been linked to the drug trafficking is on the move. God bless Poppernak. He and Jenny head down to where the driver Bryce is and they’re able to discover the drugs.
When Jenny brings Bryce in he clearly is unwilling to give them any information until she makes it clear that he’s going down if he continues to help the Bhullars. She uses that to her advantage as well when she gets him to become her inside guy to give her intel on the Bhullars. Apparently, he likes Jenny’s deal much better because he agrees. All I can say is lots of luck to him because the Bhullars may find out he’s now a mole.
That New Storyline
Okay, so, when we reviewed Big Sky 2×14 “Dead Man’s Float” we made it clear that we didn’t understand the writers reasoning for adding yet another storyline with some teenagers when we already said goodbye to the last group. Yeah, we still feel that way. Don’t misunderstand me, the whole teenager dying from a drug overdose thing is sad but it’s an unnecessary storyline.
What’s even crazier about this storyline in Big Sky 2×15 “The Muffin or The Hammer” is that the Bhullars are in fact involved in having the bad shipment of drugs. Ren and Jag were trying to determine who messed with their Fentanyl, so they called in one of their workers Ronit. He revealed something pretty shocking. When asked who has been cutting their product, Ronit revealed that their father is the one doing it.
Ren and Jag are stunned but it doesn’t appear that Ren believes it. Jag looks like he might believe it though. Ren clearly pissed about this because she thinks her father could never do that, takes Ronit for “Ice Cream” he asks if she’s going to kill him, and she doesn’t say yes or no. I really hope she doesn’t kill him though because that would be messed up to kill him over something her own father is responsible for.
The other issue with this new storyline is that now we have a grieving father on a rampage. Hayden and Masons dad Richard is out kidnapping Masons friends, and trashing bars to figure out where he got the drugs from. Richard himself has a history of addiction and Denise was his sponsor.
She and Lindor track him down and she tries giving him a pep talk and he tells her he’s okay and he’ll go back home. No lie, we could tell he was not okay and everything he was telling Denise was a lie. We’re honestly surprised she didn’t pick up on his behavior because it wasn’t normal.
She and Lindor let him leave but as we expected he doesn’t go home. He heads over to the Bhullars place with a gun. So, now we have another person to add into the mix that will either kill someone or be killed. That’s lazy writing in my opinion because I would be perfectly fine with the storyline without them adding in another set of characters to be part of this never-ending drama.
Other Things
- Cassie is back but she didn’t do much in this episode except be Jenny’s support system. We did get to see her and Lindor in their own way make their relationship official.
- While I’m happy for Cassie, I’m also bummed for Jerrie because she really does like Lindor, and they work well together too.
- Travis pulled his gun on Jenny. Dick move.
- So now we know why this episode of Big Sky was called “The Muffin or The Hammer.” Yikes! Also, we’re really glad we didn’t see anyone take either one of those things.
- Guess Masons friend who Richard kidnapped wasn’t important enough to give a name.
- So, daddy Veer’s girl Alicia had a dream that one of his children, (Jag) is going to kill him. That’s not weird at all…
- Jerrie, leave Lindor and his cheese quesadilla alone. I’m basic like that too.
- Cassie asking everyone if they can just “do normal” YES! stop walking on eggshells around Cassie. She’s stronger than they give her credit for.
- Props to Lindor taking the reigns and being the first one to fill Cassie in on what’s been going on since she’s been gone.
- If Denise is such a good sponsor, why couldn’t she pick up on Richard’s body language that he clearly wasn’t doing okay?
- If Travis really did tip off the Bhullars to clean the lab out, that’s fucked up.
- Honestly thought Tonya would be the one cutting the Fentanyl as part of some revenge plot. Not Veer. That was really surprising.
