Losing a loved one is tough. Some days the grief feels like it’s going to swallow you whole. And we’ve all had moments where we wished we could talk to the people we lost just one more time. The question is, if given the opportunity, would you? I used to think I might want to, but I tend to be a little superstitious. I don’t know what talking to a loved one on the other side would do or what it would bring into my life. But after watching the trailer for A24’s film Talk to Me, I’m even more confident that I don’t want to.

In Talk to Me, “When a group of friends discovers how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.” See, now. You lost me with the embalmed hand thing. That is already screaming, “Don’t do it.” Also, whose embalmed hand is it? Where did it come from? You know what? I don’t think I want to know.
Based on the trailer, there are strict rules for handling the hand.
One of the most important notes is that you can only be in for 90 seconds, and if you go past that, “they’ll want to stay.” We don’t know who “they” are but it seems that when you talk to one person, you may be letting in a few other stragglers who sneak on in. We’re guessing the lead character Mia (Sophie Wilde) must have gone past that 90 seconds when trying to see her mother again because she starts seeing things once the conjuring is over.
It also looks like Mia took the embalmed hand home, which is a head-scratcher because there is no way we would take it home with us. No way, no how. That could also be the reason she sees things too.

Talk to Me looks creepy, and even though the plot makes us say nope because we wouldn’t do any of the things these kids are doing, we’re still curious enough to check it out because we can never pass up a good horror flick. This is especially true when you take into consideration that it comes from the studio responsible for hits like BEEF and Everything Everywhere All at Once.
