It’s that time of year where we’re in what we call a dead zone. The TV shows that we love aren’t back from break yet (or you know their season hasn’t started) and we feel like we’ve watched everything that there is to watch. What else can we watch? What can we do? How can we get through? We can rewatch.
And rewatch we shall.
It feels like that we should be watching the things we need to review in the future, but that’s a future us problem. We don’t like to deal with future us, because she can be complicated. She can be a bitch. Lets deal with current us.
And current us wants to deal with the want to rewatch My Life With The Walter Boys. We’re going to deal with current us.
If you aren’t familiar with My Life With The Walter Boys, “After losing her family in a tragic accident, 15-year-old Jackie is forced to leave her privileged Manhattan life and move in with a large, boisterous family in rural Colorado, where she becomes entangled in a love triangle between two brothers. From the producers of The Kissing Booth and based on the popular Wattpad novel by Ali Novak, My Life with the Walter Boys series is a story of loss, love and growing up.”
So why should you watch it?
NIKKI RODRIGUEZ
One of the best things about My Life With The Walter Boys is Nikki Rodriguez. The actress is a gem. We admit, we never saw her in On The Block, where she reccurred as the girlfriend of one of the main characters, and we regret that. She commands the screen – subtly playing innocence, strength, and grief. She is a gem. Remezcla did a great write up of her, you can read it here.
IT KEEPS THE ESSENCE OF THE BOOK (BUT GIVES A NEW STORY)
We love books. Books are absolutely magic. Ali Novak wrote a great book, one that we loved reading on Wattpad.
A lot of the time when a book is adapted the essence of the book is there. They expanded the story in order to make the series and will expand to make seasons of the show. We have to admit that we can’t talk shit about that. What we love is that they don’t destroy the book.
They honor it.
THE WALTER BOYS
In the book, there are more Walter Boys, but the cut down works for this show. The Walter Boys are a group of loyal, fierce, and sarcastic boys, that are trying to find their way to being men. Each one is unique. Some are frustrating – hell all of them are – but it’s okay because you’re watching them and understanding brothers.
You’re understanding friends.
Granted, as loyal as the brothers are to each other, they are also frustrating, because sometimes their loyalty is misguided and it hurts them. Yet, you find yourself worrying about them, liking them, and hoping that they find their way.
Especially Cole and Alex (because they are the ones that you get to know).
You want the Walter Boys as brothers. You’re invested in them.
THE SCENERY
Have to admit that we haven’t appreciated Colorado enough. The green, the scenery, the beauty. Just watching the show and seeing the beauty of the state. Watching this show, Colorado is exuding main character energy and we’re here for it.
SARAH RAFFERTY AND MARC BLUCAS
This isn’t just a teen show (not that it would be bad if it was). Sarah Rafferty and Marc Blucas as Katherine and George are the parents that you want to have in your life. You can’t help it – when you’re watching them, you respect them. You see the good and the bad. You see how hard it is to be parents, but you respect them for how hard they work at it and how committed they are. We love when an actor brings characters to life in a way that you believe that they are real.
