We watch a lot of TV and movies! And we listen to a lot of music, podcasts, audiobooks…so yeah, we’re fangirling over a lot of things! So, each week we come together to highlight all the feels they give us throughout the week. On these Fangirlish Feels of the Week, there are five categories and many thoughts! Ready?
Here we go!
What You’re Fangirling Over This Week
Ashley T.: I’m still fangirling over Echo! It’s such a really well-done show that it’s a shame that it’s not gotten more attention. If you’ve not watched it yet, get thee to Disney+ post-haste!
Ashley W.: Just days after I finished rewatching Daredevil season 3, news broke that Wilson Bethel is reportedly reprising his role as Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series. So it was especially exciting to hear, because his stellar performance in the role was fresh in my mind. As a Marvel Television fan, it’s also just great to see the shows and its actors from the pre-Disney+ era get well-deserved attention.
Brittany: As the unofficial president of the Wilson Bethel Fan Club, I too have been excited over the Daredevil news. Because of what Ashley said, and also because he deserved for someone to pick him up after the end of All Rise. He was the major reason I hung on watching that show in Season 3, and I still mutter about how the season didn’t realize the full potential of his character Mark Callan. So here’s to seeing him cut loose in the MCU!
Rachel: This week’s flashback episode of Miss Scarlet and the Duke will live in my shipper heart until the end of time. Showing us how Eliza and William first met was an excellent idea to begin with, but then they went and cast two PERFECT young actors as the younger versions of the characters. And I mean PERFECT. These two captured the characters so beautifully, it’s astounding. Then the entire episode was full of shipping delights. It’s one of the best episodes of this entire series and I will always love it.
Amanda W: The Wicked movie wrapped filming this week, and while I’m eager and excited for all of it, I especially cannot wait to see Jonathan Bailey‘s Fiyero!
Lizzie: LOOK, can I just be happy over sports? Jannik Sinner beat Novak Djokovic, my least favorite tennis player ever …and that means he’s not going to win the Australian Open. And I know I shouldn’t be rejoicing over people losing? Buuuuut, dude’s an antivaxer who hangs out with war criminals and who believes the power of positive thinking can purify water, so yeah, I’m gonna just be happy he lost. And Im going to celebrate Sinner, who played a hell of a game.
Also, Colman!!! America!!! Central America representing in these Oscar Nominations!! Plus, I was really happy for Society of the Snow, too.
WTF Moment of the Week
Ashley T.: This is a really good WTF! Look up the trailer for Monkey Man, Dev Patel’s (The Green Knight) directorial debut, produced by Jordan Peele! Hooooooly cow! I’m down for anything those two are doing, but I’m so hyped that they’ve teamed up for this!
Bad WTF of the week: No Oscar noms for Greta or Margot in the best director or best actress category? I wish I could say I was surprised. It’s truly frustrating that the two women at the lead for the biggest movie of the year aren’t getting the spotlight they deserve.
Ashley W.: Less of a “what” and more of a “why,” but Marvel Studios shared some photos from season 3 of What If…?, and one of the images features Sam Wilson’s Captain America.
As a Cap superfan, I am THRILLED (especially because it looks like he could be at S.H.I.E.L.D./S.H.I.E.L.D. will be relevant). However, why TF is this the first Sam Cap moment we’re getting since The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ended in 2021? I get that, with the multiverse and this next saga, there are a lot more stories and characters to tackle now. But you’d think that Captain America, one of the key heroes in the MCU, would be someone worth giving more time and attention to.
Brittany: I hate to repeat myself, but this week’s Chicago PD had me scratching my head with Voight’s refusal to tell anyone else in Intelligence what was going on. The whole series has been full of these people covering for one another at any cost so it didn’t make sense that he was tight-lipped about Ruzek’s involvement. Also, I wanted more Atwater. But I always want more Atwater.
Rachel: Yep, Ashley T., I have to agree that the lack of Oscar noms for Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie for Barbie– and especially the outcry about it– was my WTF moment this week. None of it sits right with me, not their lack of recognition or the way the talk about it overshadowed good noms that should have been celebrated.
Jasmine: For me, it’s that I cannot fathom how number 45 is able to run for President again when he’s facing all these legal issues. I feel like I’m not even living in the real world.
Lizzie: Insert a picture of Hank Voight here.
What We’re Listening to This Week
Ashley T.: Shocking to no one, I’m still listening to HAIM on repeat. Mr. Nerdy Blogger wanted something different, so he put on Maggie Rogers’ first album, Heard It In a Past Life. I adore her too, so that was okay with me. Fun fact: she opened for HAIM a few years ago, so I’m definitely down for more Maggie in my life too.
Ashley W.: Earlier this week, I somehow fell down the Corey Cott rabbit hole on YouTube and watched so many videos from past performances he did, including the iconic “Santa Fe” from Newsies on Broadway and even the Pokémon theme song. And I’m 99.9% sure I watched every video of him singing “Maria” from West Side Story, because it continues to be the best thing I’ve ever heard.
Jasmine: I’ve been listening to a lot of the albums I haven’t listened to in a while on Spotify like Radioheads In Rainbows. It’s nice to revisit an album you haven’t heard in awhile because you gain a new perspective listening to the lyrics.
What We Rewatched This Week
Ashley T.: I have had this silly song from this video that HAIM did with Jimmy Fallon in my head all week. I watched it a few times because it makes me laugh. Now you get to enjoy it too.
Ashley W.: In classic Ashley fashion, I rewatched Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Why? Simply because I haven’t watched it yet this year. But, being me, I couldn’t watch it without first watching the preceding film in that series: Captain America: The First Avenger. That, however, makes for an incomplete Captain America movie marathon. So, by the time this is published, I’ll surely have watched Captain America: Civil War as well.
Rachel: This week was Memento in my Christopher Nolan rewatch. He really knew how to maximize non-linear storytelling from the beginning. Both in writing and directing. This film is just an excellent thriller.
Amanda W: High School Musical is the first musical I ever loved, and since it recently celebrated its anniversary, how could I not rewatch it?
Badass Character of the Week
Ashley T.: Ryan Gosling’s statement about Greta and Margot’s snub is real King Shit™. Good job, Baby Goose.
Brittany: Former Mobile Homicide detective Glenn Barton! The First 48 is finishing out its Mobile episodes after the city of Mobile ended its contract, but that meant we got a bonus Barton episode. It was so bittersweet when the episode with his retirement aired last month, so I was beyond thrilled to see him again.
I actually squealed. And we got another fun Barton moment when Glenn went dumpster diving. This dude, man. I love him so much because he loves his job so much, and I hope he’s having a blast working for the FBI.
Rachel: For me, Eliza Scarlet was badass in this week’s Miss Scarlet and the Duke. Not only did we get to see her show some rare vulnerability by William’s bedside in the hospital, the flashback showed that her investigative abilities have been there for many years. And she could handle a smarmy suspect with ease back then, too. Truly a kick-ass female character ahead of her time.
Lizzie: Not all that much is back, so forgive me if I default to saying someone from Chicago Fire, but this week it’s not Stella, but Kylie Estevez. Our baby has grown!
