Almost a year after Wynonna Earp announced at San Diego Comic that the Syfy show was going to return for seasons 4 and 5, it’s finally been confirmed that we’re heading back to Purgatory! According to The Vulture, Deadline, and Entertainment Weekly (basically everyone’s talking about this because it’s amazing) the show has been saved from being axed due to financial burdens that were weighing IDW down.
IDW was reporting loses left and right and Wynonna Earp had lost international deals with Netflix to provide additional funding. Now, there are new players and old ones that are stepping up. Syfy is putting everything they have into supporting Wynonna Earp. According to Deadline, “Syfy has stepped up and has agreed to pay a higher license fee for Season 4 than what the network is contractually obligated to in order to help get the season made.
Helping to get Wynonna Earp back on its feet is Space and Seven24 Films. They are partnering up with IDW Entertainment when it comes to production of season 4. Space will be airing Wynonna Earp season 4 in Canada next year while Syfy will handle airing season 4 in the United States. Also, Cineflix Rights has been hired to handle international sales for all 4 seasons of Wynonna Earp according to Vulture.
As for the cast, they’re all in. Despite contracts having lapsed, the cast will remain largely intact. Vulture reported that the core four will be returning aka Melanie Scrofano, Tim Rozon, Kat Barrell, and Dominique Provost-Chalkley. And even though Rozon has a new show in the works, his filming schedule shouldn’t class with that of Wynonna Earp when the cast, crew, and family head back to Calgary to film season 4 of this amazingly weird and heartfelt show.
This goes out to you, Earpers. You were the guiding light that kept us all fighting for Wynonna Earp and this win is yours! There will be no crazy cliffhangers and we’ll definitely be getting more badass Wynonna and lovely Wayhaught. So, may we meet, scream, and cry over more Wynonna Earp goodness when the cast and crew return to San Diego Comic Con this July!
