We knew that it was coming, a change in the Queen. From the beginning Netflix let the world know that they would be recasting for The Crown every two seasons. And hey, it makes perfect sense. People get older.
But our love for Claire Foy runs deep and she’s so fantastic in The Crown that we worry about how the show will change without her and Matt Smith.
That being said – we’re pretty stoked about the new Queen. Olivia Colman, who we know from The Lobster is the new Queen of England on Netflix‘s, The Crown. It’s weird to be excited about it and at the same time, disappointed, because we’re so used to and will miss the OG Queen.
Season 3 and 4 of The Crown haven’t officially been ordered by Netflix yet, but let’s be honest, we expect it to happen. After the success of Season 1 and what e can only imagine is an amazing season 2, the following seasons seem like a shoe in.
“This is going to take Queen Elizabeth from age 29 to, presumably, the current day. We’ll see it lay out over decades,” Ted Sarandos told the Hollywood Reporter last year. “The idea is to do this over six decades, in six seasons presumably, and make the whole show [run] over eight to 10 years.”
Eight to 10 years to see The Crown play out? To be honest, we’re all in. Can totally get down with that, because the obsession with the royal family and their history is real.
We just know that as soon as we get used to Colman, there will be a change in casting again. But we’ll be there watching, cause this show is so fucking good.
The second season is expected to roughly cover from 1957 to 1964. The Crown returns to Netflix December 8th.
