Agreed entirely with this piece! I think they’ve handled Iris contemplating the future and realizing she’s ready for Barry to be a part of it as well as they can given all the murders and kidnappings and Zoom-ing going on around them lol. And I hope that once Barry gets back from wherever he’s lost right now, he and Iris will at keast have a moment together to experience their present before going back out into the fight against Zoom.

I totally agree! Barry and Iris have been building up from the pilot and i’ve read every minute. They’re a slow burn so it takes some people time to warm up to them. But the writing for them is so subtle and fantastic. They’re one the healthiest and best TV couples on air right now. Iris is my favorite character and makes the show great! Without her I probably wouldn’t love this show as much.

This was a fantastic analysis on the current situation between Barry and Iris. I think the people who are insisting that Iris is succumbing to destiny are forgetting that she defied it when it came to Eddie because she did not feel that she should just be with Barry because someone said it was meant to be. I agree that her seeing that she and Barry are married in both the future and on Earth 2 is just something that is helping her realize that the destiny she was trying to fight was the one that she has really always wanted all along. Iris is not the type of character to just do things that she is told to do (i.e. like writing a blog about The Flash that everyone told her was dangerous) unless she wants to do them. Her knowing the future and outcomes on different earths is just something that is allowing her to accept the feelings that have always lingered in back of her head regarding her best friend.

I love love love this article. I was nodding like a bobble head all the way through. Your analysis of Iris’ feelings is so spot on!! Gradual steps, human emotion and allowing time to process emotions. It’s so relatable. I do think now is right time for both of them. Barry’s love for Iris and his willingness to act on it has never been in doubt. Nor has Iris’ love just her willingness to confront those feelings. Pre-show Barry was running and not confront his feelings for over a decade. Iris has been going through the motions for 2 years and really wrestling with it. The confession was beautiful and such a good pay off. Grant Gustin and Candice Patton knocked it out of the park! WestAllen scenes are so powerful and organic.
