I meant to publish this review on Monday, but the thing is I haven’t been able to find the right words. It’s rare that I am speechless.
I’ve made no secret that I love Anna Todd‘s books. Everything about the After Series has always resonated with me. I don’t care about the controversy that surrounds them – because the truth is – to me they are amazing. To me they speak to my heart. Like so many people in the world – Anna made me remember why I loved to read.
I loved the fact that she decided to write more about Landon, because I felt like his story had so much more. So when Nothing More and Nothing Less were announced, I jumped for joy. I didn’t read the Wattpad version, because the truth was – I wanted to be surprised. I couldn’t deal with reading a chapter and having to wait for another one.
Nothing More…
Where do I begin?
New York’s skyscrapers and hectic pace are a far cry from where Landon Gibson grew up, and the transition to New York University has been jarring. But he’s getting the hang of things, found a job that pays (some of) the bills, enjoys school, and only occasionally runs into his ex, Dakota. You know, the one he chose NYU for…before she dumped him.
Luckily, his best friend, Tessa, shares a (terribly small) Brooklyn apartment with him. And given the ups and downs she’s had with her own ex, she’s a good listener when he finds himself in something of a love triangle—a love knot? Whatever it is, it’s a mess. An exciting mess. Maybe an addicting mess, because beautiful girls.
Being young and finding your way in the world is hard. Landon’s always been a positive person. But such a loud, demanding city so far away from home means you only get by with a little help from your friends. And a good pair of headphones.
Landon’s going to be okay…but the journey sure will be fun to watch.
Living in New York, I loved knowing exactly what Todd was writing about. I loved the fact that we weren’t in the Pacific Northwest. We got to experience a new part of the world. A world where there was the opportunity new people, new beginnings, and guys – not gonna lie, really made me miss Hessa.
I will just say it – can we get more books with a grown up Hessa living their married life? But I digress.
In the After Series, we get know Landon, but in Nothing More, we really get to know Landon. He’s evolved. He’s no longer just the best friend or Hardin’s stepbrother. You grow from him being a supporting character – to his time to shine.
He’s evolved from a boy to a man.
But like all of Todd’s books – love is in there. There is a love triangle, one that has been crafted as only Todd can do. But no matter who you are rooting for – you wonder who will win Landon’s heart in the end.
Because you want him to find love.
Todd continues to write characters that you can’t help but root for, want more for, and as usual she keeps you guessing. Nothing More shows her evolution as a writer. This isn’t After – this isn’t Hessa – this is Landon’s story. And it’s crafted in a way that leaves you wanting more.
Nothing More hits shelves, September 20th. Be sure to pick it up!
