A Talk With The Young Stars Of ‘A Wrinkle In Time’

This week, Disney releases A Wrinkle In Time – just in time for summer vacations. Storm Reid stars as Meg Murry, and Deric McCabe stars as Meg’s brother Charles Wallace. Together with Meg’s classmate Calvin O’Keefe (Levi Miller), the Murry children are taken on a quest across galaxies by three celestial beings: Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey), Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon) and Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling), while seeking the Murrys’ father, played by Chris Pine.

The home video release includes scenes deleted from the theatrical version, including an explanation of how time can be “wrinkled,” a visit with Aunt Beast (who only gets a brief mention in the theatrical release) and an encounter with a very creepy paper girl. There is also a 30-minute behind-the-scenes feature, taking the audience to locations in New Zealand and northern California, and letting us see director Ava DeVernay bring Madeleine L’Engle’s story from the page to the screen. Especially fascinating are the clips of the costume work; each of the three Mrs. characters has a different costume for every scene of the film, and you may not have noticed some of the details the first time you saw the movie. (For example, the quotations that are written onto one of Mrs. Who’s costumes; the character speaks in quotations.)

Fangirlish talked with Reid and McCabe about making the movie, and about their iconic characters of Meg and Charles Wallace, so well known to generations of readers.

A Wrinkle In Time will be released on May 29 on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD and Movies Anywhere. It will be released on June 5 on Blu-Ray, 4K Ultra HD, DVD and On-Demand.
