If you’re a fan of Will Smith, chances are he’s made you cry.
Here at Fangirlish we love Will Smith, and are not afraid to admit he has given us some major waterworks over the years. Whether it was on TV or the big screen, we have shed a lot of tears watching him.
Here is our list of the top 5 times Will Smith made us cry.
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (S03E19) “Just Say Yo”
In this episode, Will, faced with the pressures of being a teenager, got some pills from a classmate to help him stay awake. His cousin Carlton (Alfonso Ribeiro) mistakenly took them thinking they were vitamins and overdosed. The moment Will confesses and his Uncle Phil (the late James Avery) pulls the entire family into the living room so he can tell them all, is intense. You can feel how remorseful he was about what happened. You can also see how much pressure he had put on himself to focus on his studies and athletics, which made him feel like taking drugs to stay awake was his only option. I still cry when I watch this scene.
Fresh Prince of Bel-AIr is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (S04E24) “Papa’s Got a Brand New Excuse”
I really don’t think I need to say too much about this one because most Will Smith fans know this episode very well. One of the most emotional scenes I have ever seen on this show. The anger and hurt is so palpable from Will and when he finally breaks down and says the infamous “How come he don’t want me, man?” I don’t know how anyone could watch this episode and not cry.
Fresh Prince of Bel-AIr is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (S05E15) “Bullets Over Bel-Air”
Will ends up hospitalized, after getting shot while trying to stop someone who tried to rob him and Carlton at the ATM. Carlton who is feeling scared, purchases a gun to protect himself. When he shows up at the hospital to see Will, he reveals that he has bought a gun. Will is upset that Carlton felt the need to do this, and immediately tells Carlton that’s not the solution and he demands he give him the gun. Carlton gives it to Will and when he leaves the room, Will breaks down as he empties the weapon.
Fresh Prince of Bel-AIr is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
The Pursuit of Happyness
This film based on entrepreneur Chris Gardner, is absolutely heart-wrenching. Will’s performance is so emotional and I cannot watch this film without crying. There are so many moments throughout this film that make you breakdown, but the final scene when Chris, after struggling to provide for his young son (played by Wills son Jaden Smith) is offered a job for the brokerage firm he was interning with, tops them all. Make sure you keep the kleenex handy because you will cry.
The Pursuit of Happyness is available to stream on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Seven Pounds
This movie was a one time watch for me, because that jellyfish scene was so intense and I ugly cried watching it. Once I realized why it was happening, I cried even more. I can’t say too much more about this film because It would reveal spoilers but this is another one that requires the use of kleenex.
Seven Pounds is available to stream on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
