Sabrina Spellman’s life gets even more complicated, if that’s even possible, in season 3 of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. She’s still the same witch we know and love, that’s for sure, but there are obstacles that she must face in season 3 that will define the kind of witch and person she is from here on out.
Our favorite witch is still a firm believer that magic will get her everything she wants. To Sabrina, there is always a loophole, there is always a way to help her friends, her family, or her coven. That much doesn’t change about Sabrina. What does change is her being confronted with the results of her actions to a point where she’s shell shocked at the life she’s leading.
Family wise, Sabrina is keeping secrets. She loves her family to the moon and back but it’s difficult to trust in her Aunts and Ambrose when she doesn’t want to disappoint them. It’s like a kid hiding something from their guardians because they don’t want their guardians to look at them any differently but it always comes out and goes to shit.
Unfortunately for Sabrina, things get complicated to the point of no return and it makes it harder for her family to look at her in the same way. They’re still united, the whole lot of them. You can’t keep a Spellman down. But they have done things that are leading them all down separate paths, no matter how close they want to stay together.
As for Sabrina’s friends, their storylines are tied to Sabrina’s without being bogged down by her story and witchy ways. Most notably, transitioning character Theo Putnam starts building a connection with an unexpected character that ends up being surprisingly delightful and the kind of representation my queer self needs in my life.
Then there’s Sabrina’s boo, Nick. Of course Sabrina is going to fight tooth and nail to get Nicky out of hell. You can’t keep a witch like her down. And it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that she actually succeeds in bringing him back to Earth because the season 3 photos spoiled that. But things aren’t going to be easy for Sabrina and Nick, especially for the latter.
Nick was possessed/became a jail cell for Lucifer and that takes a toll on our favorite warlock. Trigger warnings for self destructive behavior, substance abuse, and some hard discussions with Sabrina about what he went through. It’s not an easy journey for Nick in season 3 and you’ve got to watch to make it through/understand it all. P.S. The way that Sabrina has his back through the rough times is *chefs kiss*
All in all, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina goes darker, faster, stronger without losing the bits we loved in season 3 of the hit Netflix series. It brings the mystery, demons, and gives it a little shake before adding all sorts of mayhem you never saw coming because the possibility never crossed your mind. So hold on tight and make sure to tell the devil, “Not today, Satan!”
