Wonder Woman 1984 kicked off the first part of DC FanDome virtual events that are happening throughout the day. During the panel, a new trailer was revealed for fans — the first extended look since Dec. 2019. And, as you might imagine, we are beyond excited!
In Wonder Woman 1984, Wonder Woman squares off against the Cheetah, a villainess who possesses superhuman strength and agility. Following the debut of 2018’s Wonder Woman, the sequel takes on the 1980s in its first trailer, which is a mixture of fun, action, humor and most importantly heart.
But most importantly, STEVE FUCKING TREVOR IS BACK. Our WonderTrev hearts couldn’t be more full. I mean, JUST LOOK AT THEM HOLDING HANDS AND DANCING IN THE MOONLIGHT. I am dead.
Wonder Woman set the bar incredibly high not only for female superhero films but superhero films in general. It was action-packed yet warm and heartfelt — and downright heartbreaking. Simply put, it was so much more than just a superhero movie.
So when it was announced that there would be a sequel, naturally we were thrilled beyond belief. When we found out it would take place in 1984, it presented a new wave of excitement to see what Wonder Woman would look like in a new decade.

With director Patty Jenkins back at the helm and Gal Gadot returning in the title role, “Wonder Woman 1984” is Warner Bros. Pictures’ follow up to the DC Super Hero’s first outing, 2017’s record-breaking “Wonder Woman,” which took in $822 million at the worldwide box office. The film also stars Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig as The Cheetah, Pedro Pascal as Max Lord, Robin Wright as Antiope, and Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta.

While there are some movies debuting on premium VOD, it’s clear that Wonder Woman 1984 likely won’t take that route.
“We all worked so hard to bring something that would be a big visual spectacular. So we’re going to stick it out — we believe in putting it in the cinema,” director Patty Jenkins said. “I can’t wait for the movie to come out soon!“
With the COVID-19 pandemic, Wonder Woman 1984 has seen its release shifted a couple of times. As of now, it’s scheduled to be released in theaters on Oct. 2.
