The cast of Netflix’s First Kill is set and we are here for the diversity and representation that is coming our way. Based on Victoria “V. E.” Schwab‘s short story, this tells the story of teenage vampire Juliette Fairmont, played by Sarah Catherine Hook. To take her place in a powerful vampire family she has to claim her first victim. She settles on Calliope Burns, played by Imani Lewis. What she doesn’t know is that Calliope is a vampire hunter/slayer from a celebrated family of slayers.
Already this sounds like the kind of messy supernatural drama we’re all about. But what makes this story better, what makes us want to watch it now, is the end of the logline for First Kill which reads: “Both find that the other won’t be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, way too easy to fall for…” Yes, you read that right. There is going to be a star-crossed lovers love story grounded in sapphic love. And it’s the kind of LGBTQ representation we need in 2021.
The series recently began production with Felicia D. Henderson (The Punisher, Empire, Gossip Girl, Soul Food) serving as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Emma Roberts and Karah Preiss serve as executive producers through Belletrist Productions, along with creator, executive producer and writer V.E. Schwab.
