As we learn more and more news about the upcoming Marvel shows on Disney+, Fangirlish wants to make it easier for the franchise fans to get up to date on everything they need to know. So this monthly round-up includes some of the biggest and most fun news from the last two weeks about all of our upcoming favorite Marvel Studios shows, like WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and Loki.
WandaVision
Unfortunately, we can’t share that WandaVision took home a ton of Emmys YET. We can share that you can read the scripts for the Emmy-nominated episodes on Deadline now. This is an unreal resource for anyone who loves TV, the MCU, and the show. It’s a great way to see and further appreciate the incredible work of Jac Schaeffer and her team.
The available episodes are “Filmed Before A Live Studio Audience,” “All-New Halloween Spooktacular!,” and “Previously On.” Deadline also worked in a Q&A with the writers for even more of a deep dive into the episodes.
While we keep our fingers crossed about a WandaVision sweep at the Emmys, the series went ahead and won a few Hollywood Critics Association Awards. Kathryn Hahn won for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Television Movie. WandaVision took home the award for Best Streaming Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Live-Action Movie.
Loki
There isn’t a lot to update you on for the God of Mischief since Loki didn’t end that long ago. Like us, you are probably clamoring for any details you can get about Season 2. We all know it’s a ways away, but that doesn’t mean we can’t hype ourselves up about it now.
We do know that Kate Herron will not return to direct the show’s sophomore season. Kevin Feige shared with Collider that Marvel Studios will start its search for a director soon. He also shared that he has hopes of most of the same team will return.
We already know that Tom Hiddleston will be back, which duh. But who’s Loki now without Sophia Di Martino‘s Sylvie and Owen Wilson‘s Mobius? We need them back, too!
What If…?
What If…? is the only Disney+ show in this round-up with new episodes dropping on Disney+ at the moment. With that comes all the usuals: posters, TV spots, featurettes, and merchandise. Everything you could have ever wanted to commemorate Marvel Studios’ first animated series exists. It’s all for sale as a part of the Marvel Must Haves rollout.
The Funko Pop of Captain Carter riding a flying Hydra Stomper is extra special as it’s one of Amazon’s exclusive pops celebrating the Year of the Shield.
What If…? is doing so well that Marvel Studios has big plans to develop more animated series. Victoria Alonso, executive VP of film production at Marvel Studios, confirmed this during a conversation with Marc Malkin, Variety Senior Editor of Culture and Events, at this year’s NALIP Media Summit.
As for the content of the show, expect to see a lot more Captain Carter. The promos show more footage beyond what we see in “What If… Captain Carter Were the First Avenger.” Executive Producer Brad Winderbaum confirmed that Peggy Carter’s arc would extend beyond the first season.
During a press conference, as reported by CBR, Winderbaum said, “We realized as we started developing the second season that Captain Carter was going to be the character we would revisit in every season, and continue that adventure.”
This confirms that What If…? will join Loki as the Disney+ series moving beyond a limited series. All of this becomes even more exciting knowing that Head Writer A.C. Bradley told IGN that the series is canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Go ahead and start thinking of your craziest theories because even those could be a reality now.
Finally, if you loved “What If… T’Challa Became Star-Lord,” you’ll be pleased to know that isn’t the last time you’ll see T’Challa on the show. ComicBook.com exclusively reported that Chadwick Boseman would voice the character for 4 episodes. That means we have three more episodes to look forward to and for that, we are eternally grateful.
Hawkeye
Release dates are starting to move around again. Hawkeye fans, rest assured, the series is still set to land on Disney+ later this year. The wait to meet Hailee Steinfeld‘s Kate Bishop is still longer than we’d like, but there are plenty of Marvel projects to hold us over until November. There are plenty of theories to piece together about Hawkeye‘s placement in the Phase 4 lineup as it’s arriving between Eternals and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Hawkeye premieres Wednesday, November 24 on Disney+.
Ms. Marvel
Who’s excited to meet Kamala Khan on Disney+’s Ms. Marvel? Yes, us too! Marvel Studios has yet to set a premiere date for the series, but there is reason to believe it’ll come either very late in this year or at the start of 2022.
Of course, our fingers are crossed that it’ll come out in late 2021 like Marvel.com shows it will. However, Matt Webb Mitovich reports the latter for TVLine. According to Mitovich’s inside scoop, Ms. Marvel is on track for an early 2022 release.
Either way, we know our excitement for this show will not falter!
Ironheart
There are no updates for the show, but there is a massive one for the character it centers on. Comicbook.com exclusively reported that we will meet Riri Williams in Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever ahead of her series’ premiere on Disney+. This scoop comes directly from Kevin Feige so you know it’s legitimate!
It’s exciting to think of the possibilities that weave together Dominique Thorne‘s Riri Williams together with the characters we know and love from the property. We still have plenty of time to figure it out all (and then be proven wrong by whatever Marvel has up its sleeves) because the film is set to premiere on July 8, 2022.
Armor Wars
There is no premiere date for Armor Wars, but we’re about to get a whole lot of news about the Disney+ series. We already know Don Cheadle will return as James Rhodes/War Machine. We also know that the series will ask the question: What happens when Tony Stark’s tech ends up in the wrong hands?
Now we know that Yassir Lester will serve as the Head Writer on the series, Deadline reports. This will be a reunion of Cheadle and Lester who worked on Showtime’s Black Monday together. That paired with both Cheadle and Lester’s filmographies suggests that Armor Wars could lean more into comedy than its heavy-hitting thesis suggests.
Rhodey has some of the best one-liners in the MCU, and their successful landing is all due to Cheadle’s comedic timing. So, yes, we are very here for this development.
