Legends of Tomorrow 7×12 “Too Legit to Quit” asks the ultimate question: Would you retire from being a Legend if the future was set for you? The Legends have this put to them as the Gideons show them what their futures could be like if they were gone from the time travel game. But not every team member gets their heart’s desire. So let’s dive into “Too Legit To Quit”
RETIREMENT
After saving Gideon from her wound due to protocol, Evil Gideon decides to make a deal with our Gideon: She will not harm the Legends if they decide to retire. Full Stop from the time-changing game. As a means of trying to convince them, Evil Gideon shows each of the Legends what their future could be if they stop now.
- Astra – Running for President or Congress. (Though that sounds more like hell than a future.)
- Nate – World-famous history author.
- Behrad – Star of a Children’s Variety Show we’re he’s basically Mr. Rogers.
- Sara and Ava – Parents to a young daughter
- Spooner – Working with her mom running a medical hospital
“Too Legit to Quit” showcasing what being a Legend has done to change each member of the team throughout the years is a lovely touch. Remember the first time we saw Sara Lance on Legends of Tomorrow? There’s no way you’d think that character would become one that wants to be a mom with the woman she married to. Then there’s Nate. He went from an overgrown goof to a goof that is head over heels in love. Astra grew to care about the family she’s gained with the Legends. And ultimately, Legends of Tomorrow‘s true legacy won’t be the silliness but how well they had characters grow over the years. But this also wouldn’t be Legends of Tomorrow without one tiny bit of drama near the end and well it’s pretty big.
The Gideons are able to bring Alun to Gwyn so they can live happily ever after. Good, right? Welp, the only problem with that is the Alun with Gwyn is a robot duplicate that Gwyn is able to see right through. Especially when he can’t remember the words they spoke to each other out of love and affection. So after shutting off the robot, Gwyn vows to go find the real Alun.
Meanwhile, Gideon and Gary’s romance hits a snag when she reveals the robot Alun to Gary. We’ve never been a big fan of his but we have to side with Gary on this one at being upset. He was about ready to make up with Gideon when Evil Gideon shoots him through an airlock into the timestream. Where he’ll end up, nobody knows!
If “Too Legit To Quit” gave you series finale vibes, I wouldn’t blame you. Everyone got a moment and a happy ending that made it feel that way. However, like many things with the Legends, some of it was too good to be true.
So Legends of Tomorrow heads to its season 7 finale with some answers and a lot of questions. Even Ray Charles can see that the Legends aren’t going to stay retired for very long but can they stop the Gideons and help Gwyn save Alun? Without completely messing up time as well?!
It’s Legends of Tomorrow. What do you think?
LEGENDARY THOUGHTS
- “Too Legit to Quit” also highlights one of the things that makes Legends of Tomorrow so great: the friendships. Whether it was Nate reassuring Zari that she is not worthless because she’ll go back to her old life or Ava and Gwyn’s talk about finding Alun, it’s always highlights how much they all care for one another.
- Having the Legends sign contracts that say they’ll agree to retire shouldn’t be that hard to break. Just see if you can pluck Matlock from the timeline to help.
- “Surely Wednesdays at 8 is better; after all, midweek parties are the best.” “But what time zone? “That would be 8 eastern /7 central, only on the… you know? It doesn’t matter.”
- Astra creates spare keys for everyone so they can meet up at the manor for weekly hangouts. Also makes for a good plot device to bring the team together.
- Legends of Tomorrow is still waiting to see if they’re going to be renewed for a 8th season. So next week could be the “series” finale but we won’t think that just yet….
Legends of Tomorrow airs on the CW on Wednesdays at 8/7c.
