In an effort to build a space for queer people like myself, every Sunday I’ll be posting interviews, opinion pieces, listicles, reviews, and more focused on the LGBT community (and occasionally about the Latinx community since I am Latinx.) Welcome to Queerly Not Straight! Enjoy and leave a comment below if you have a suggestion for what I should cover next.
Webtoons are another avenue for you to find LGBTQ content to consume. From romance to sci-fi and slice of life, there’s a little bit of something for everyone from some of the most creative minds out there.
And since we loved doing our first and second list of LGBTQ+ webtoons you should check out, we wanted to make another list to supply you with even more content! So check out our list of 7 more LGBTQ+ webtoons, with a focus on gay webtoons, you should be reading in 2022!
And when you’re done make sure to tell your friends and show the authors some love. You never know what could happen if the attention they get is far and wide….maybe enough to get them a Netflix deal (looking at you Heartstopper) or something that could change this creator’s life!
Enjoy!
1. Race You by Ocated (Romance)
Synopsis: It’s hard when your rival becomes the team captain and you suddenly have to ‘respect’ him. Even harder when his face starts making you feel giddy inside.
Why You Should Read: Race You by Ocated gave us major enemies to lovers with a misunderstanding twist. Now that we think about it, maybe more rivals to friends and then more. It’s funny, super awkward, and at one point the one smart braincell of one of the leads gets a moment to shine to catch the eye of the guy he doesn’t know he likes. Seriously, he has a meeting with the other braincells.

2. Boyfriends. by refrainbow (Slice of Life)
Synopsis: A comic about getting yourself a boyfriend… or multiple boyfriends! Four college students begin a polyamorous relationship and navigate the adventure that is their dating life!
Why You Should Read: Boyfriends. by refrainbow is so cute, flirty, and gay. Seriously, everyone has heart eyes for each other, leading to really awkward, funny, and adorable moments that keep you reading. Also, we’re pretty sure that one of the characters was wearing a binder, meaning that there’s trans representation, which we’re totally down for and can’t wait to read more about it.

3. Small World by Wonsun Jin (Slice of Life)
Synopsis: What do you do when you’re having a bad day? Need a hug? Or just a laugh? Call your boyfriend of course! Follow along with Robin and Julien as they navigate in their own small world.
Why You Should Read: Small World by Wonsun Jin is exactly what it says on the box: slice of life. It’s the story of a couple and the small moments that make up their lives. From one of them getting a papercut and the other lasering the page who did it in retaliation, to the realities of cuddling your loved one to protect them from rain, it’s silly and sweet fun and the kind of gay webtoons we need to see more of.

4. To the Stars and Back by Peglo (Slice of Life)
Synopsis: Introverted and grumpy, 20-year-old Kang Dae spends the majority of his time alone, and he prefers it this way. One day, he gets a very friendly and bubbly neighbor named Bo Seon. Suddenly, his life takes a very different turn.
Why You Should Read: To the Stars and Back by Peglo has one of our favorite tropes at the heart of it: grumpy loner falls for sunshine cutie. Seriously, it’s our bread and butter and we fell in love with these two from the very first webtoon episode we read. There were even flowers on the sunshine cutie and he thought the grump was called “Humph” because he was so grumpy. It’ sour krytonite.

5. The Doctors Are Out by Blau (Romance)
Synopsis: The beloved Dr. Matias Guevara tends to his patients in his little neighborhood health clinic, unaware that Dr. Fernando Guevera opened his new veterinary clinic right next door! With their patients confused and their tolerance running thin, the two grown men constantly bicker and compete! Will their similar names and professions cause their rivalry to go untreated, or will they heal each others broken hearts?!
Why You Should Read: The Doctors Are Out by Blau started out strong from the very beginning with the leads meeting, everything turning pink and beautiful, before a confrontation happens and things get messy. Their rivalry brings out the petty in each other before the inevitable happens: they start breaking down each others walls nad get to know each other, eventually liking what they find.

6. Novae by KaixJu (Drama, Romance)
Synopsis: Raziol is an astronomer with a romantic heart. Sulvain is a kind-hearted necromancer with a troubled past. A strong connection forms between them as they discover the cosmos together, and their relationship blooms. But trouble lurks in the streets of Paris. When the body of a fellow astronomer is found on the steps of the Academy of Sciences, signs point to dark magic and Raziol and Sulvain’s lives become entangled in ways they could never foresee.
Why You Should Read: First of all, Novae by KaixJu has some of the best art we’ve ever seem on Webtoons. Simply stunning from top to bottom. Second of all, this gay webtoon had us from the very moment these two looked at each other and blushed. Even more so when one said to the other, “If you would have me.” Yes, he would. *swoon* Also, there’s disability representation.

7. Eyes on Me by loonytwin (Romance, Drama)
Synopsis: This comic is about a boy, Evan, who forgets his keys at his friend’s house, on his way to find them he didn’t expect to find such a cute guy at the door… even less for said guy to be half-naked and interested in him for no reason!
Why You Should Read: Eyes on Me by loonytwin is one of those gay webtoons where you get the notification that here is some NSFW and you’re like, “I’m all in!” Without spoiling much…this webtoon is not what we expected but one that had major flirting and blushing going on that made us go, “Yes, please. Another page for us and if one of the main characters is shirtless, then so be it.”

Queerly Not Straight posts every Sunday with opinion pieces, listicals, reviews, and more focused on the LGBT community (and occasionally about the Latinx community since I am Latinx.)
I can not say this enough, the boyfriends webtoon is TERRIBLE. Not only is the creator terrible, with a long history of racism and consumption of pedophilic content, but the comic itself is full of stereotypes and heavily whitewashed characters. The entire cast is asian and yet none of them have any hints of their own culture, every character is babied and infantilized, and other queer stereotypes. It’s honestly uncomfortable to read and only enjoyable to fujoshis.
