While we love Harry Styles, we do understand why he made the choice not to play Prince Eric in the live action The Little Mermaid film. That also being said, we love us some Jonah Hauer-King, so we’re okay with him playing the role (and by okay, we mean ecstatic).
While a lot of speculation has been made around why Harry Styles didn’t play the role of Prince Eric, director Rob Marshall spoke with EW and answered all the speculation about why Harry didn’t take on the role, saying that Harry, “really felt like he wanted to go off and do the movies that he ended up doing, which were sort of darker.”
He went on to say that Hauer-King had a “sweetness” and “deep passion” to him. We can’t wait to see the movie when The Little Mermaid film premieres May 26th, 2023.
