And no, that is not a compliment. Because okay, we’re gonna be honest — The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is …an okay book. Taylor Jenkins Reid is an okay writer. She’s got better books. Books where she’s not trying to write Latine characters from the perspective of a white woman. And there are adaptations that actually give writers from the cultural background of the characters in the book the chance to write about their culture! And directors from that same background the chance to bring that culture to life!
But alas, this is a Mcdonalds, so of course, this is not the case.

Instead, it’s two white women getting to write/direct a story about a latina — one that was originally written by a white woman, anyway! REPRESENTATION 101, courtesy of Netflix. Let us hope they at least hire a latina to play Evelyn Hugo, because at this point, who can even trust them to do that?
Suffice it to say, we’re not truly looking forward to this one. Thank you for nothing, Netflix.
No dog in this hunt, other than the honed ability of Netflix to burn ice cream.
In no way comparable, but the misguided live action of Cowboy Bebop entwined with them just outright cancelling and pulling it within three weeks, and how absolutely vague AF the data that NF uses to make editorial choices is, to the point I think Anonymous would have an easier time cracking the KFC herbs and spices formula than ever finding legit NF viewing information.
