It’s a rainy Sunday and we’re refusing to get out of bed. This means that we’re going to be binging television and what will we be watching? Well, one of the things we’re definitely watching is Masters of The Air. You had us at Austin Butler and Callum Turner. Well played Apple TV+.
The actors have been making their rounds on the press circuit and talking all about their series. For Austin Butler, joining the series was a no brainer for him. For us, that’s definitely something that we’re glad about. We love Butler and no we’re not bandwagon after Elvis. Carrie Diaries, forever (if you haven’t watched it, you should).
Austin told The Hollywood Reporter that joining the series, “was one of those no-brainer decisions.”
He continued, “You’ve got Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman, and I’m such a huge fan of Band of Brothers, The Pacific and Saving Private Ryan. I knew that this opportunity doesn’t come up every day, so I leapt in with everything that I could.”
All of those names are executive producers and well, with those names, we have to admit, we get why he wouldn’t pass it up either. Those names are huge and if you impress them… well… IYKYK.
Masters of The Air is all about the “real-life friendship between B-17 fighter pilots Gale “Buck” Cleven (Austin Butler) and John “Bucky” Egan (Callum Turner),” during WWII. The series, “explores the aerial wars of WWII through the enlisted men of the Mighty Eighth Air Force of the United States Army Air Forces.”
Being as Butler and Turner’s characters friendship was super important to the series, it was important that the two were able to convince others that they were friends on screen. It definitely makes it easy, when you really are friends.
“From that very first night that we hung out, we hit it off quickly,” Butler says. “We got past any superficial questions, and we went straight into talking about life and love, and our fears and our dreams and whatnot, so we got to know each other very well. He was the greatest sparring partner I could have hoped for on this one.”
The first three episodes of Masters of The Air are streaming now on Apple TV+. We’re off to watch. Hope that you are too.
