When you think of sports dramas on television, we’d guess that the sport in question would be one of these: basketball, football, hockey, or baseball. We don’t think that it would be about crew. Leave it to Netflix, though, to have a show all about the sport of crew and make it a young adult sports drama. We applaud you, Netflix, and we will be sitting down to watch Crew Girl.
Now officially, they call it a coming-of-age drama, and we get that. Still think it’s about sports too. The synopsis reads, “A frothy, coming-of-age teen drama about a 16-year-old female rower, Teagan, who becomes the coxswain of a dysfunctional all-boys rowing team at an elite East Coast Prep School. Warring rivals, messy romantic entanglements, and betrayed friendships spill drama both in and out of the boat. Not to mention her complicated relationship with her mom, Ella. The team’s a mess, her life’s a mess. Can she fix both and win?”
Currently in production in Victoria, British Columbia, the show comes from Thunderbird Entertainment’s Great Pacific Media and is led by Showrunner/Writer Vivian Lin. In addition to Lin, executive producers include Jeff Norton, Lindsay Macadam, Hillary Zwick Turner, Tony Chung, and Lori Massini
The series will star Miku Martineau as Teagan, Jessica Paré as Ella, Samuel Braun as Josh, Kyle Clark as Cam, and Thomas Cadrot as Coach Hayden.
We have no idea when it will premiere, as it’s just started production. But we’re definitely interested in the show.
