Interactive micro-dramas are pains. I don’t like them. I want to escape and not have to make choices. Forcing me to think and make choices takes me out of it and makes me not want to watch. However, with Pucked and Pregnant, I suffered through over 70 episodes of not being able to escape.
And yes, I said suffer. I said suffer because I watch micro-dramas for an escape. I don’t come to choose my own adventure – especially if neither adventure choice is any good. Is it a power play for money? Sometimes it feels like that’s all that apps want – more and more cash. However, what that does is just make me want to not watch.
So why did I watch this one? Well, because I missed it in 2025, and I am currently in my sports romance era. I like being there. Algorithms recognize it and serve me up content. The gist: “After saving her from abuse, Logan and Alexis fall in love and expect a baby, but discover he accidentally killed her brother in hockey. They must reconcile with their past to create their future together.”
Rebecca Stoughton stars as Alexis Lee. She’s got one of the absolute worst boyfriends ever. Tyler is an abuser; he does everything to control her, and he’s downright the scum of the earth.
Alexis is distraught because a year before we start, her brother had died while playing hockey. Tyler is angry that she’s still mourning her brother and proceeds to belittle and abuse her. The memorial is sitting in the backstage area at the arena, so while Tyler is doing this, several hockey players are looking on.
Aaron Oberst, who plays Logan, intercedes. He tries to comfort Alexis and let her know that she isn’t alone. She’s always in survival mode – waiting for the other shoe to drop. Logan doesn’t want that for her. There is this instant connection that he wants to be there for her.
And he is – for one night. The two have a one-night stand, and that is because Tyler finds her. She’s so terrified of him that she returns to him – in order to save Logan.
A few months later, Alexis made another break with Travis. She’s working at a bar – a hockey bar – and that’s where she runs into Logan again. He’s filled with passive-aggressive comments towards her. He doesn’t like the fact that she decided to go back to Travis instead of staying with him.
As with anything that Alexis does, it’s to protect others and make sure that they are okay. But that all needs to stop because she finds out that she is pregnant with Logan’s child. He walks back into her life, and automatically her body triggers prego vibes. I couldn’t stop laughing because I was like Is this a reminder that micro-dramas are a lot like soap operas.
Logan is considered to be a “bad boy” in this vertical. He’s got anger issues, gets in fights, and what we learn is that he’s carrying the weight of Alexis’ brother dying. He believes that he’s responsible and has been going through torture over it. Especially after he finds out that the woman he got pregnant is the sister of the man he believes he killed.
Alexis and Logan’s relationship is complicated, but it’s not to say it doesn’t work. However, what doesn’t work for me is Tyler and the fact that he’s allowed to stalk Alexis because he has money. It even goes so far as for him to gain custody of her unborn babies so that Logan can get the medicine that he needs to survive.
There’s a lot of violence in this one, and I know that some will say to me – it’s hockey, that’s to be expected. But I don’t believe that is it. There is no excuse for abuse, and honestly, I wanted to climb through my screen and drag Alexis to a therapist. I also wanted to send Tyler to jail.
Ultimately, Pucked & Pregnant had some good parts and some bad. What it did, though, was make me dislike interactive verticals even more. Also, going to need to not have so much violence and abuse. Oberst and Stoughton do have on-screen chemistry, and so I am wondering how this one ultimately fell so short.
And then I remember.
Exploiting women, abuse, violence – all of these things didn’t move the story. They hindered it.
I understand that it is supposed to be a dark story, but even then, it was too much. Pucked & Pregnant is a micro-drama you can skip. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
