As we all know the world is a bit of a dark place at the moment. From the political climate to the coronavirus, there has been nothing but bad news all day, every day. If you’re anything like us, it’s starting to get to you and you’re ready to just shut off the TV and walk away. Trust me, we’re definitely considering it.
If you’re looking for a way to just unwind and shut off your brain for awhile a good comedy may be just what you need. As they say, laughter is the best medicine. We could all use a bit of laughter in our lives don’t you think? with that being said, I find film parodies to be a great escape. Film parodies are stupid funny and they take the serious films we like and completely flip them because let’s face it, some of the movies we love can be a bit comical.
Here are the 5 funniest film parodies to watch.
Not Another Teen Movie
Not Another Teen Movie is a mashup of basically every teen movie and romantic comedy you can think of. The film stars our Captain America, Chris Evans in his first feature film role as Jake Wyler. Jake is the school jock who believes he can make the unpopular girl Janey Briggs played by Chyler Leigh (Supergirl) pretty and popular. Sound a bit like She’s All That? well it should because that’s one of the main films it parodies.
A few of the other films references you’ll pick up on are; Cruel Intentions, Varsity Blues, The Breakfast Club, American Pie, and Never Been Kissed to name a few.
Not Another Teen Movie is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
Scary Movie
This will always be my favorite of the Scary Movie parodies. Directed by Keenan Ivory Wayans, this film makes fun of every cliche from our favorite horror flicks. Scary Movie is a combo of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Anna Faris stars in the lead role as Cindy who is the “Sydney Prescott” of the story.
This movie is stupid funny with some laugh out loud and quotable moments.
Scary Movie is available to stream on Netflix.
Vampires Suck
I love the Twilight series so much but this parody is the best. Even if you’re a diehard Twilight fan and hate when people make jokes, you will love this. Matt Lanter plays Edward Sullen a parody version of Edward Cullen and he does a great job. Jenn Proske plays the lead Becca Crane which of course we know is a parody version of Bella Swan. Jenn nails all of Kristen Stewart’s mannerisms as Bella perfectly and this movie is just so much fun to watch.
Vampires Suck is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
Epic Movie
If you love Harry Potter, The Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Chronicles of Narnia, get ready to see those films destroyed. Epic movie is really dumb funny and it’s mindless entertainment. There’s really no other way to describe it because that’s what it is. A really silly parody film with no real point but that’s the purpose of a parody, they don’t always make sense.
Epic Movie is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
Fifty Shades Of Black
I really enjoyed this parody of Fifty Shades of Grey although I will say this, some moments were a little too raunchy mainly between Jenny Zigrino who plays Hannah’s (Kali Hawk) roommate Kateesha, and Affion Crockett who plays Christian’s (Marlon Wayans) brother Eli. I get parodies have the freedom to get as crazy as they want but their moments could have been toned down a bit.
The thing that keeps me watching this film which has been coming on quite a bit lately, is Kali and Marlon. They are the best thing about this parody and I enjoyed watching Marlon go from playing the serious Christian Black to a plain old goofball. He and Kali had really good chemistry and great comedic timing.
Fifty Shades of Black is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
