It’s day whatever of being under quarantine, and while we know that our Spring and Summer is looking a bit different this year, that doesn’t mean we can’t still have a good time.
Music is life, and it’s one of the most universal forms of entertainment. Good music has a way of bringing us all together, and when you’re feeling down it has a way of lifting your spirits. At least that’s how music is for me.
I know we were all looking forward to those spring/summer moments filled with fun road trips, where you just get in your car and pop in some of your favorite tunes. We know it sucks, but the one thing that remains the same in all this is our music.
We can still listen to those songs that make us feel happy and upbeat, the only difference is we’ll be doing it on our trips to the grocery store or just to take a walk to clear our heads.
Here’s a list of 10 songs that get us into a spring/summer mood!
“Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles
The third single off Harry Styles ‘Fine Line’ album is one of my favorites, and it’s definitely a great song to bring out those summer vibes. The music video, which was just released, is “dedicated to touching.” It’s a visual masterpiece of fun times and frolicking on beaches surrounded by people. Also, I have never wanted to be a watermelon so bad!
“Break My Heart” by Dua Lipa
I love Dua Lipa, she’s the queen of dance music in my eyes. Everytime she puts out a dance track, it’s just pure poppy goodness. ‘Break My Heart’ has an 80s tempo that makes you want to get up and dance wherever you are. Seriously, try and sit still while this song is playing, you can’t. The music video is just as fun too. It’s filled with vibrant colors, cool visuals, and some funky dance moves.
“Be Kind” by Marshmello & Halsey
There is just something so fitting about this track. I mean, it’s called ‘Be Kind’ for goodness sake. We could all use a little kindness, and be a bit kinder to each other, especially those we love. I love this song so much and Halsey’s vocals transport me to another place as I close my eyes and listen. The lyric music video, which was released earlier this month is amazing as well. Everyone should know by now that I love visuals and the ‘Be Kind’ music video has some that are really beautiful.
“Say So” by Doja Cat
I was recently introduced to Dojas music by my sister, and this song is just so much fun. ‘Say So’ always puts me into a good mood. Whenever i’m in my car, the second it comes on, my shoulders start moving and a smile is on my face. This song actually what inspired me to create this list. The music video has a 70s vibe with that classic film look, everyone’s rocking bell bottoms, and afros and having such a good time. Oh, and the love interest isn’t so bad to look at either.
“Take Yourself Home” by Troye Sivan
I love Troye Sivan. He just knows how to put out songs that make you feel so many emotions. ‘Take Yourself Home’ is eerily reminiscent of our current situation in the world. With the lyrics “Sad in the summer, city needs a mother,” it really makes me think of how so many of us are feeling right about now. Although this song is a little on the sad side, Troye finds a way to add a hauntingly beautiful dance beat to it. The song picks up even more at the 3:30 mark, with a vibe that feels like you’re in a dance club.
“Stupid Love” by Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga always delivers when she puts out a song and ‘Stupid Love’ is no different. This song is an upbeat dance track that will have you trying to learn the dance steps from the music video. It’s fun and poppy, with a little bit of a disco feel. The music video delivers space age fun and Gaga dazzles as always, with her various costumes and makeup looks.
“Pick Me” by Wafia
Wafia is another artist I discovered because of my sister. Her song ‘Pick Me’ is the female empowerment anthem we could use right now. Just because we’re in quarantine, it doesn’t mean we stop choosing ourselves when we’re in sticky relationship situations. It can be tough to choose ourselves but, sometimes that’s just what we have to do.
“X” by Jonas Brothers Ft. Karol G
The Jo Bros have done it again with their new track ‘X.’ The collaboration with Karol G is a sexy tune with a latin flair. The song which is basically an F-U to your ex, makes you want to swivel your hips and dance like you’re on a tropical island. Or at the very least, imagine that you’re on one.
“Princess” by Pia Mia
Time’s are weird for entertainers so making music videos has become a challenge. Pia Mia brought her A-game with her visualizer for her new track ‘Princess.’ The whole video was shot inside of her home and it works so well with the song. This song has a chorus that’s catchy and the base on the entire track is fire.
“Old Me” by 5 Seconds Of Summer
I have had 5SOS’s album Calm on heavy rotation since it released in March because it’s amazing. ‘Old Me’ is one of my favorite tracks, and I think it’s the perfect song to listen to while you sit and just watch the sunset. I love the music video as well, because it just makes me think of summer and hanging with your friends.
