We are a little over a month away from reuniting with our favorite fictional football team AFC Richmond. The Season 2 premiere of Ted Lasso is right around the corner. Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. gifted us an official trailer for the upcoming season and a rollout of merchandise to make us feel even more like a part of the Richmond family. Unsurprisingly, some of those pieces are already sold out.
Apple TV+ watched us all clamor for any details we could when the Ted Lasso Season 2 teaser dropped, so they decided to give us any less in the official trailer. By even less, we mean it’s still hard to tell the trajectory for any given character beyond trying to free AFC Richmond of relegation. David Bowie and Queen’s “Under Pressure” really drives home the emotions surrounding that goal. However, there is a shot of Richmond walking on the pitch at the Semi-Finals, so we do have hope. We never lost it, really.
In addition, some characters are mysteriously absent from the trailer for the most part — Roy Kent and Jamie Tartt. With an eye for details, Ted Lasso fans could have caught Jamie’s name on a locker in the teaser. There’s even a moment in that video when you can see someone running on the pitch with Tartt on the back of his jersey.

Now, in the season trailer, the name is gone from the locker, and that same jersey is mysteriously blurred. It’s sneaky, but it’s not tricking any of us. We know that this isn’t the end for Jamie Tartt on AFC Richmond and definitely not on Ted Lasso. He made the extra pass, after all!
As for Roy, there is definitely less of him in this trailer, but the one shot we do get is priceless. We’re getting a Ted Lasso Christmas episode this season that we know we will be rewatching during this holiday season (and probably every single one after). Keeley’s apartment is decked out in the holiday spirit, including the lamp from A Christmas Story. In the center of all that tinsel and joy are Roy and Keeley. That’s all we want for them. Also, they look STUNNING, but we wouldn’t expect anything less from them.
There’s even a shot of Rebecca recreating Ted’s iconic “Hi Boss” but with “Hi Ted” spelled in tinsel on the sidewalk instead of footballers on the pitch. This shouldn’t pull at our heartstrings as much as it does, but we can’t help but get misty-eyed thinking of how far Ted and Rebecca have come since the Pilot. Richmond will surely be unstoppable with this team united, with Ted and Rebecca united.

These shots should come around the same time as Ted saying he believes in “rom-communism,” which may be our new favorite word. Who doesn’t love a good rom-com? They’re good for the soul, just like Ted Lasso. This could just be Ted with yet another pop culture reference, but we can’t help but believe there will be some rom-com threads through Season 2.
“Are you ready to believe again?” That’s the phrase featured in the trailer that makes our hearts grow three sizes. Ted Lasso has been a healing force for so many over the last year. To know that comfort is coming back is enough to ease our minds, if even for a little while. These characters have wrapped themselves around our hearts, and we are ready to welcome them back into our homes. That’s what family does. That’s what AFC Richmond has done for each other ever since Ted reminded them that kindness and love are strengths.
Seeing nearly all of our favorite characters at a family dinner, presumably around the holidays, is so moving. This team was so divided before Ted and Beard started breaking down those walls, and there’s no going back now. They’re a family through thick and thin. Coming back from relegation won’t be easy, but they’ll have each other. Higgins’ toast brings it all home with, “To the family we’re born with and to families we make along the way. To Richmond!”
