As a massive WandaVision fan, it is thrilling to know the Agatha Harkness spinoff is official. For Disney+ Day, Marvel Studios announced our favorite trouble-making witch would return with a series all her own.
The news broke that the spinoff was in development just last month. So now, we know a little more about what to expect from the series. Namely, the show has a title — Agatha: House of Harkness.
Marvel Studios confirmed Kathryn Hahn would return in the titular role. Honestly, we wouldn’t want to watch the show if that wasn’t the case. Plus, WandaVision‘s head writer and executive producer Jac Schaeffer will also return in those roles for this show.
That confirmation came with a shiny new logo that gives off all the vibes we would hope an Agatha Harkness-centric show would.
According to Marvel, the upcoming series “will reveal more about the character first introduced in Marvel Studios’ WandaVision.” Whether through magic, music, or both, we couldn’t be more thrilled to see what Hahn and Schaeffer bring to the small screen.
We know that Agatha is a critical character in Wanda Maximoff’s development in the comics and now on screen. WandaVision teases a potential future confrontation between the characters. It also hits the tip of the iceberg about Agatha’s past up to her time in Westview.
Agatha: House of Harkness could be about Agatha’s time around the Salem Witch Trials. The title is very similar to the intense House of M comics, which centers on a life-changing event for Wanda Maximoff. So maybe this show will be as significant for Agatha.
We can infer that Agatha: House of Harkness will play into the MCU somehow. Whether it informs Agatha’s time on WandaVision or her future well beyond it, this new show is a part of a shared universe. On the other hand, if this show is a standalone backstory, that will reflect the MCU’s growth.
As more and more projects drop on Disney+ and release in theaters, fans may feel overwhelmed trying to keep up with everything. Standalone series could be ways to avoid burnout in that they aren’t crucial to your understanding of the universe, but they give you a better understanding of the characters.
Regardless, our fingers are crossed that we’ll see Agatha in some form in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Agatha: House of Harkness isn’t the only new Marvel show to get a new logo at Disney+ Day. Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel got slight updates, while She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, and I Am Groot got complete upgrades. Echo and Ironheart received new logos, too.
The Marvel Studios Disney+ Day Special included a look at Samuel L. Jackson as he reprises his role as Nick Fury in Secret Invasion.
Plus, What If…? officially scored a second season, which isn’t shocking but is still exciting. Fans of “What If…Zombies?” will be overjoyed to know that Marvel Zombies is an animated series coming to Disney+ soon.
In addition, Marvel Studios announced the beloved animated series X-MEN ’97 would return with new episodes in 2023. Finally, according to Marvel, Spider-Man: Freshman Year is a new animated series that “follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU.”
WandaVision is streaming now on Disney+!
