A Discovery of Witches penultimate episode saw Diana becoming one with the Book of Life. It no longer is within those pages but within her body. That makes her the most powerful witch in existence and we pity Benjamin, Satu, and anyone else who dares to come after Diana or her family. Because Diana is looking to change the world and make it a safer place for all those who live in it, creature or not.
The Bishmont of It All
One of our least favorite tropes is the man leaving the woman as a means of protecting her. It’s dated and something that Diana immediately squashed when she caught Matthew on A Discovery of Witches. Because these two, they’re partners. They just don’t leave each other and sneak off to defeat the baddie. They work as one to have the others back and effectively make sure the baddie never comes back.
For Diana and Matthew, the baddie just so happens to be Benjamin, Satu, and that other white-haired vampire we just couldn’t care enough to look up his name. And in a twist of tropes and all that jazz, Diana is going to be the one to come in, power ready, to rescue Matthew from the torture he’s experiencing at Benjamin’s grubby hands.
And we have no doubt that Matthew still has some fight in him to get up and support Diana. Because that’s what these two are about and will all always will be. That’s why we’re not even worried about Benjamin, Satu, or the other white-haired vampire. Order will be set and the world will be changed because of the love Diana and Matthew hold for each other. Period.
Sarah Getting Revenge Against Knox
As soon as Peter Knox stepped out in front of that car, we knew that it wasn’t going to end well. First of all, he looked disheveled and like a mere shadow of himself, as if him not having a position showed how truly weak he was. And secondly, the way that Sarah stepped forward was a clear sign that she was about to get revenge for the death of Emily.
Sarah didn’t need any help on A Discovery of Witches. She knew that she could do it for Emily, for herself, and for everyone that Knox has hurt. Sure, later on, she made it clear that she didn’t want to experience that power again. But in that moment, she let everything that she had been feeling course through her until the power was within reach and she could rid the world of Knox and his poison.
And can we talk about how Diana just stood there? She could’ve stepped forward and killed Knox with the snap of her fingers. But this wasn’t her fight. This was Sarah’s. So instead, she offered her support to her aunt and let her fight her own battles. And that is one of the many reasons we love Diana and hope to see more characters like her on our screens.
Benjamin is Trash, Spread the Word
Our least favorite type of villain is the type who blames others for their turning into a villain. Sure, circumstances in our lives can mold us and help set us on a path to who we become as adults. But we all have a choice. And when we enter adulthood we are responsible for our own actions and what steps we talk forth.
Benjamin chose to be this monster. And he didn’t even do it for himself. He did it for his father. Because he wanted Matthew to notice him, to know that he was the one who caused their family so much pain and that he had the upper hand in some way or another. ANd it’s truly going to be his downfall and then some.
Which, we’ve (this particular writer) never read A Discovery of Witches and we have to assume that Benjamin was raping the women he kidnapped. His comment about Diana shows that he had been hurting these women as a means of showing Matthew that he could “do it too,” proving that he’s nothing but trash.
