Forget about every other upcoming horror movie because the Halloween Ends trailer just reminded us why this franchise is the one. Whatever you thought of Halloween Kills — and uh, we had thoughts — this latest tease is still going to have you wishing it was October already. Then again, if you’re all about spooky season, you were probably already counting down the seconds anyway.
So, if you haven’t yet watched the Halloween Ends trailer, you’re probably wondering why we’re screaming. And no, it’s not because we’re scared. Much. Michael Myers can, after all, freak just about anyone the fuck out.
No, it’s all about the feel of the thing. The opening seconds are all shaky-camera, Halloween-night goodness that can take you back to any year in Haddonfield. It’s kids trick-or-treating, totally unaware that all hell is going to break loose. Except we know. From the way it’s shot, from where we are, and definitely from that eery, thumping heartbeat underneath it all. It obviously helps that a few notes of the Halloween theme make their way through that heartbeat, too…right up until the theme completely takes over. As it should.
And then…at the top of the stairs…Laurie Strode.
She’s ready for Michael Myers, y’all. But we’re not sure if we’re ready for her.
We’re all about our Final Girls around here. So, anything that showcases one of the ultimate Final Girls going at it with her nemesis is going to have us screaming. Which is exactly what this Halloween Ends trailer did: It got us screaming. For her. And them. And their ultimate rivalry as we know it, ending (at least according to Jamie Lee Curtis) in this showdown.
Look: We don’t want to this to really — for real this time! — be the end of Curtis’ run as Laurie. All that old footage, flashing across the screen with “THEIR SAGA ENDS” in between, already has us in our feelings. But if we really have to say goodbye forever, at least this trailer makes it look like Laurie is going out in style.
Don’t just take our word for it, though. Watch the Halloween Ends trailer below, and join us (and several characters, apparently) as we scream about it.
“Come on, let’s go” indeed.
