Chenford Flirting in The Rookie 5×06 “The Reckoning” is Why We Are Here
We are here for Chenford’s flirtation in The Rookie 5×06 “The Reckoning!” Lucy wanted to know what was going on with Tim because she was worried. But, more than anything, Lucy wanted to distract him so that whatever he was thinking about, he didn’t think about it.
What Lucy did is childish but it served to keep Tim from thinking about the breakup. Ashley may not have been the love of his life – that’s Lucy – but a breakup always hurts. And I love this. I love the way Tim pretends to be angrier than he is at Lucy in The Rookie 5×06 “The Reckoning” but then he has no choice but to smile. She is always there for him…even when he resists her being there.
And that final moment… something was going on. Tim confessed to her that he appreciates what Lucy did for him and she just looks at him, wanting to tell him so many things… but not being able to. And Tim looks back at her, wanting to get closer to her, if he moves a little bit he can reach her… then Chris arrives and that little moment of magic is broken.
Tim takes a step back, his eyes following them as they walk away together. Lucy looks away for just a moment, their gazes connecting, and they speak their own language. Lucy may be leaving with Chris but her heart is not with him. That relationship is mortally wounded and it’s only a matter of time before it ends. Of course, this being Chenford season I don’t expect them to be together until the end but, again, it’s just a matter of time.
Fight Prejudice and Racism in The Rookie 5×06 “The Reckoning”
Prejudice and racism are what hurt our society the most and The Rookie 5×06 “The Reckoning” is just one more example of it. Lila lost a friend because of the prejudice and racism of her ignorant parents. It’s disheartening to see how the freedom and open minds of children are nipped in the bud by racist and prejudiced parents.
The people James helps are people with difficulties but that doesn’t mean they are criminals. Why exactly should they be? Because they are Black? Because they have broken families or economic problems? Those who equate these situations to delinquency have a serious problem called racism. Period.
I liked that James played a trick on these people at his house on Halloween night, but I think he should have let Nyla go dot the i’s for them. Being passive is sometimes not the solution. We said what we said.
A Not Quite Pleasant Return
The Elijah thing is a big mess in The Rookie 5×06 “The Reckoning.” Elijah’s lawyer took the case so she could get back at Wes for what he did to her. A part of me understands her. I mean, Wes cheated on her when they were one step down from the altar.
He was a coward and she didn’t have that closure that she deserved to have. So now she saw an opportunity to chop Wes up and give him some of his own medicine, so she took it. That’s why she tries to get Wes and Angela in trouble. It’s not about the case. It’s her revenge.
I appreciate the way Wes tries to advise her about Elijah despite everything in The Rookie 5×06 “The Reckoning.” He is right that the control she believes she has is nothing more than an illusion. Nothing will happen as long as she can meet Elijah’s demands, but when she fails…things will be different. However, Wes didn’t give her the one thing she needed and wanted: an apology. We never hear him apologize to her for what he did to her. And he should do it.
As for Elijah, well, everything is a big mess. We don’t understand why they’re going to repeat the storyline about Elijah’s threat to Wes and Angela. That wasn’t one of The Rookie‘s best plotlines and it doesn’t do the show any favors to bring it back to the fore. We also don’t understand how a prosecutor allows himself to be intimidated by the words of a lawyer.
Making the prosecutor hesitate is part of a defense attorney’s job. But it seems to us that the prosecutor is a real coward because he didn’t even try. This prosecutor prefers to put children who are victims of circumstances in big trouble and let real criminals go free. In short, one bad decision after another.
Other Stuff in The Rookie 5×06 “The Reckoning”
- James and Nyla’s daughter is the cutest thing in the world.
- Sleeping is important…if not, tell Celina. Although her sleeping place is unexpected. And funny.
- Nolan and Bailey are still super lovely.
- How the hell did he fit so many knives in that costume?
- Angela’s badass mode is always GOOD.
