A new episode, new review! The Rookie 5×04 “The Choice” shows us the first official crossover with the partners of The Rookie: Feds, although with little participation from the FBI, while the team fights against time to save Bailey, and Rosalind enjoys her time. Plus, those intense Chenford stares are EVERYTHING. Ready?
Here we go!
Cruel Game…Naive Players

The Rookie 5×04 “The Choice” is a difficult episode to review. Everything has focused on the case and there is very little to comment on. However, there are a couple of things we want to focus on.
The Rookie 5×04 “The Choice” is a cruel game. Rosalind makes John decide between the principles that define him and the life of the love of his life. It’s an impossible and cruel decision because whatever Nolan’s decision was, it was going to come after him. If John had decided to kill Rosalind, that death would have weighed heavily on his conscience.
In deciding not to, first Bailey’s supposed death and the feeling that he hadn’t been able to save her was something he couldn’t forget. After verifying that Bailey is still alive, Nolan won’t be able to shake the feeling that he couldn’t save her when he had the chance.
In any case, there was no correct choice here and all of us in that situation would have acted in different ways. That is precisely why this game is so ruthless, cruel, and machiavellian.
But Rosalind is a psychopath, so what did we expect? Nothing different. This plan that we saw in The Rookie 5×04 “The Choice” is very typical of her. And I have to admit, that last minute made me tense like a guitar string.
Even though I knew that Bailey would get out of Rosalind’s trap safely, I couldn’t help but think, “what if…?” But I only thought about it for that minute. The rest was like…well, Rosalind controls everything.
Make the Unbelievable Believable

As we told you in the premiere review, Rosalind controls things too much. She always gets help, as well as evading the police and even renting a house! WTF?! Rosalind is supposed to have the LAPD on high alert looking for her, as well as the FBI.
For us, it is not credible that she evades them all and leads a normal life and she also has time to develop such a cruel plan, as if she were not the most wanted fugitive of the moment. It’s also not entirely believable that Nolan’s *only* way out was to play along with Rosalind to the end. Or LAPD seeing a van leave the location they know Rosalind sent Nolan to and not investigating that lead.
In summary, what we saw in The Rookie 5×04 “The Choice” doesn’t make much sense if you think about it coldly. But, apart from this, it’s a repeated storyline. This cruel game to which Rosalind challenges John inevitably reminds us of what Lucy suffered. Then, Rosalind also managed to evade the entire police force that was looking for her, she found an ally and almost killed a member of the team. So yeah, we’ve seen this before.
Decisions…

We think that Rosalind gave them everything she could give in this regard. They should have created a new enemy for the first official crossover between the two shows in The Rookie universe. In this way, they could have used Rosalind from time to time because her conversations with Nolan, while she was in jail, were much better than this. We said what we said.
Now, it’s time to continue the crossover in The Rookie: Feds‘ next episode, and, once Rosalind is out, it’s all about finding out who helped her. And we expect a lot more from this hour than what we saw in The Rookie 5×04 “The Choice.”
In any case, our hats off to Annie Wersching because her work made Rosalind an incredibly magnetic and interesting character. We will miss her!
PS: We want to stay and live in those intense Chenford looks. Tim didn’t want Lucy to go down into that basement because he couldn’t bear to have something happen to her and she doesn’t look away from him until Tim disappears down that hole. And the best part is that he doesn’t take his eyes off her either.
The Rookie Season 5 airs Sundays at 10/9 on ABC.
