The first full-length Scream VI trailer dropped this week, and the theories are already flying. Whatever we think we know about sequels and this franchise, we’re probably about to learn we never really knew the rules at all. Not to mention, with Neve Campbell out of the picture, the one thing we used to be able to count on — Sidney Prescott as the ultimate Final Girl — is now on the cutting room floor. So, what do we think is going to happen in the latest Scream movie? Um…let’s put on our Captain Obvious costumes and say that Ghostface is going to kill some folks. (Huge spoiler, we know.)
It probably goes without saying that we’re loving the new images of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega as the Carpenter sisters. But that’s where we’re starting because they are obviously the stars of this revived franchise. A lot of the trailer’s action sequences also focus on them, and we’re really hoping Tara can borrow from another of Ortega’s iconic roles — Wednesday Addams, of course — and just…not…blink. She’s going to need to not miss a thing if she wants to avoid the business end of Ghostface’s knife, so…Yeah. Keep those eyes wide open.
As another possibly obvious statement, we’re also always here for nods to the original movies. We’ll get to the biggest collection of tributes to the Scream (and Stab!) franchise below, but let’s talk about a couple of other things first. Number one: Yes, Hayden Panettiere is back as Kirby. Next up: The one, the only, Gale Weathers.
Fans have thoughts (demands, to be honest) about Gale Weathers and Scream VI.

From the looks of it, with Sidney gone, our killer is a little bit lonely and reaching out to the next best thing: Gale Weathers. This is perfect on so many levels, we don’t even know where to start. In the first place, it’s passing the torch without really passing it at all — Gale is, after all, of the original generation. Then, there’s the possibility for some of the best one-liners ever when our all-time favorite bitchy characters gets to step out of Sid’s shadow a bit. The trailer already has “it never works out for the dipshit in the mask,” which has us screaming (no pun intended). And we know nobody’s giving away their best material this early in the game. We legitimately can’t wait for Courteney Cox to destroy us, actually.
And while we’re at it? Giving Gale the types of trailer cuts that Sidney used to get is kind of a throwback to Scream 2 without even really being a throwback. See also:
“Star of the Gale Weathers press conference. Author of the press conference starring Gale Weathers. Soon to be a major motion picture starring Gale Weathers!”
Guys, Randy Meeks predicted that.
Remember that “don’t fuck with the original” line from Scream 4? You know, the one we’ll never let anybody forget? At this point, one of the best ways to honor that is by sparing Gale. Actually, come to think of it…that probably means we should be worried. If we’re being totally honest — which we always like to do here — the scariest part of this new movie is the thought of losing her. Ghostface, we can handle. Yet another end-of-an-era moment…not so much!
Even Paramount+ is like “oh, hell no” to the thought of losing her. (Missed opportunity for a “liver alone” reference, though.)
…which brings us to our next point.
Even the Paramount brands have thoughts.
After the marketing game for Scream (2022) was on a whole ‘nother level, we had big expectations for this sixth film. For as long as dying Twitter lasts, we can now officially say that, if nothing else, the brand is out here and ready to keep engagement up. Now, normally, we’d roll our eyes at a bunch of corporate Twitter handles trying to sell us something. But this ain’t that.
Jasmin Savoy Brown, who returns as Mindy Meeks-Martin, can also be seen as Teen Taissa in Showtime’s Yellowjackets. There’s nothing like a little bit of blood relative (Showtime is part of the Paramount family) promotion in the form of creepy AF entities trying to one-up each other.
But wait! There’s more! Speaking of Scream movies, Paramount+, and sequels…Remember that time Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Cici fell victim to Ghostface? The folks behind her upcoming series, Wolf Pack (on Paramount+, of course) sure does…
Like…how is this real life? And why is it so much fun?
We’re taking a stab at this puzzle from the Scream VI trailer…

We don’t exactly encourage making a shrine to Ghostface or anything, but we don’t exactly discourage it either. (Pay no attention to the merch in our homes.) If you do choose to go all out slasher-worshipper on us, though, the monument to madness shown in the Scream VI trailer is the only way. It’s like one of those “spot the hidden images” puzzles we used to do out of boredom when we were kids — except badass.
So, what all did we spot in the trailer?
- The rope they found Casey Becker hanging from (“her insides on the outside”).
- Past Ghostface costumes. Oh, and one of them is specifically labeled as Billy Loomis’ and given special treatment in its own case.
- A Ghostface mask next to a Stab movie logo…so we’re thinking from the big theater killing?
- The outfit Tatum was wearing when she got crushed in the garage door. (“She wanted to be in the sequel.”)
- Stu’s robe…and “the TV that killed him too.”
- A Stab clapperboard.
- Jill’s flannel shirt.
- Billy’s bloody tshirt.
- Mrs. Loomis’ blazer.
- A mask from Sidney’s Windsor College production of Agamemnon.
- A fax machine.
- The frying pan used on Stone.
- Steve’s letterman jacket.
- A handgun…Based on its placement near Mrs. Loomis’ jacket, could it be one used by either Sidney or Gale to end her and Mickey?
- Olivia’s shirt.
- A Woodsboro (HS?) flag.
- A Woodsboro cop’s uniform.
- …a sketch? Is it, perhaps, something Charlie drew…of Kirby?
Going back to one of our earlier points, this somehow makes us more worried for Gale than ever before. Of course, whoever compiled all of this had to have been around for all the killings. That…would only be Gale at this point. So, she’s Ghostface — which means her attack is a fake and, based on history, she’ll likely die in the end. Or maybe Ghostface is just determined to finish the job this time…and Gale may very well die anyway. Now, that’s scary.
