We watch a lot of TV and movies! And we listen to a lot of music, podcasts, audiobooks…so yeah, we’re fangirling over a lot of things! So, each week we come together to highlight all the feels they give us throughout the week. On these Fangirlish Feels of the Week, there are five categories and many thoughts! Ready?
Here we go!
What You’re Fangirling Over This Week
Amanda P.: I’m literally writing this 15 minutes after the Bridgerton Season 3 sneak peek because POLIN! I am an absolute goner for a friends-to-jealousy-to-lovers arc, and I just know they’re going to give us everything we want and more. They’re both characters who have made mistakes in previous seasons and are continuing to grow, both individually and as a pair, and May cannot come soon enough.
Amanda W.: It’s been nearly a week, and I am still thinking about the Wicked movie teaser trailer. Is it Thanksgiving yet?
Ashley W.: Enver Gjokaj’s birthday was this week, so, naturally, I spent (more) time fangirling over him. But, beyond that, he is now back on TV, as Resident Alien season 3 premiered on Valentine’s Day, and I’m so happy to see him on my TV again.
As much as I absolutely love and adore how he brought my beloved Daniel Sousa (Agent Carter and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) to life, seeing him portray something different on Resident Alien in the villainous alien his character, Joseph Rainier, is makes for such a fun and interesting time. It also just serves as another reminder of his vast talent and how underrated he is, and I can’t wait to see more of his comedic side.
Ashley T.: All the Marvel announcements this week! First, we get the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer, a real Fantastic Four casting announcement, and then the trailer for X-Men ‘97 finally dropped! There are loads of good things to look forward to if you’re a Marvel fan.
Rachel: I’m with Amanda P.– Valentines Day was the Day of Polin and I loved every second of it! The sheer amount of content Bridgerton fans got in one day was incredible but the clip they released was especially impactful for me.
I have been vocal about my criticism of Shondaland’s writing style and philosophy when applied to romance but that clip made me so much more optimistic about the writing of Colin and Penelope’s season than I ever have been. I love all the new stills as well, and the episode titles were also a source of joy for me. I will be fangirling about all of this until further notice.
WTF Moment of the Week
Amanda P.: I have a feeling we’re all on the same page this week here. What the actual f— , Suits: LA? Even if we set aside the strike talk – and that’s a BIG if – Stephen Amell is just… the weirdest choice for this? His whole career has mainly been built on playing stoic, broody, macho men, which is the exact opposite of the witty, breezy, charming, “blue skies” vibe of Suits.
Ashley W.: I’m so tired of the senseless hate, unnecessary meanness, and toxicity that is becoming increasingly more prevalent amongst some Marvel “fans.” It’s one thing to be critical of a movie or casting choice or to simply not be a fan of it. But it’s another thing entirely to bring hateful speech into the conversation just because you don’t like something.
Regardless of one’s opinion on the Fantastic Four casting, those actors and the entire team working on the movie deserves a chance to actually bring the story to life before people get so worked up about how “wrong” a choice may be. None of us knows what this movie is going to look like or how these actors are going to be like in their roles. But at least give them a chance to prove themselves.
Ashley T.: What Ashley W. said. If you don’t like something, that’s fine. Stop making it your whole personality. Go spend some time on the things you do like. It’s better for your health, and for the rest internet too.
What We’re Listening to This Week
Amanda P.: It’s springtime on Broadway, which means a ton of new shows in previews, which means my theatre-nerd self is feeling nostalgic about some of my favorites from previous seasons.
The Bridges of Madison County had far too short a run, but at least it won the Tony for best score, thanks to some of the most gorgeous songs in modern musical theatre. Steven Pasquale and Kelli O’Hara duetting on “One Second and a Million Miles,” be still my heart!
Ashley W.: Ahead of The Great Gatsby’s first Broadway performance at the end of March, Eva Noblezada and Jeremy Jordan, the leads, performed “My Green Light” at The Plaza earlier this week. And OH MY GOD. I’ve been obsessed with the absurdly talented pairing of Eva and Jeremy since they were first announced to be in the show’s pre-Broadway run last year, and I have become more obsessed with every time I hear them sing together.
From the pre-Broadway rehearsal footage to seeing them perform live during the pre-Broadway run to this latest performance at The Plaza, it gets better every time. And I simply could not help but watch their performance at The Plaza every single time I saw it on social media.
Ashley T.: After the episode I recorded of Pick a Disc dropped this week where I chatted about HAIM’s Women in Music Pt. III, I put the album on repeat again, in particular “Gasoline.” It’s one of my favorite tracks on the record, but I’m also learning to play bass guitar, so I’m trying to get the bass line down on that one.
Rachel: Of course, with the Bridgerton Polin content we got, I listened to the newest episode of the “What A Barb” Polin podcast. Their live reaction to the clip and stills is chef’s kiss. I would venture to say that’s it’s accurate to all Polin fans that day!
What We Rewatched This Week
Amanda P.: It’s Rom-Com Bracket time over on Twitter, so I’ve been on a rewatching spree. Plus One really is such an underrated gem of a rom-com. Maya Erskine is so wonderfully messy, and Jack Quaid belongs in the club with Lewis Pullman for nepo babies who actually have ridiculous charisma (and need to do more rom-coms).
Ashley W.: With the casting news for the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, I felt nostalgic for the 2005 version and decided to rewatch that. It’s not spectacular, but I’ve always loved and enjoyed the film.
It was my favorite movie for much of my youth, and it also started my Chris Evans fandom. For nearly 20 years, I’ve randomly been quoting lines from it in my everyday life. So I have fond feelings and a special place for the movie in my heart.
Ashley T.: Barbie is back in theaters in my neck of the woods, so I hit the theater to see it again. I’ve not watched it since I saw it on opening day last summer. All the laughter, all the tears, all over again.
Rachel: My Christopher Nolan re-watch continued with Inception this week. I love the experience of noticing new things in excellent films after not seeing them for awhile, and Nolan’s films are full of potential for that.
Badass Character of the Week
Ashley T.: Anyone working hard in the film industry who is seeing their shows or movies jettisoned from existence due to corporate greed. I see you, and I am thankful for your art. I’m sorry that these studios have done such a buffoonish thing like this.
Rachel: The way Penelope Featherington maintained her strength and dignity while letting Colin Bridgerton know exactly what he had done last season on Bridgerton was perfection. Just this clip tells me that our Pen deserves every bit of happiness the Shondaland overlords will deign to give her in season 3.
Raquel: I’m with Rachel on this! I loved seeing how Penelope managed to take Colin down with a few stinging words. It’s like he took her for granted and she made it clear to him that she ended up with all that s*it… and the reasons for that.
That’s something Colin didn’t expect. I loved every second of it and I have to admit that it surprised me because I expected to see Penelope this empowered but I didn’t expect her to be in episode 1. Season 3 just keeps getting better!
