We’ve always been huge fans of One Tree Hill and remain huge fans. We didn’t know what was happening behind the scenes of the show and all of the information that we are finding out, well… it makes us so mad. It makes us mad because the cast and crew deserved so much better.
The latest thing to irritate us was finding out how Hilarie Burton and Chad Michael Murray were betrayed and not asked back for a season seven.
Burton, told the story on her Drama Queens Podcast that she hosts with former One Tree Hill co-stars Bethany Joy Lenz and Sophia Bush, of how she found out that she and Murray were on the chopping block.
The two were filming a scene when everyone heard the news from one of the producers about the pickup for the seventh season. Everyone was ecstatic. We remember when we heard and well, we were thrilled and we had nothing to do with the show.
But for Burton and Murray when they found out, they knew what was coming.
“Chad looks at me and he’s like, ‘Have you even gotten an offer? I was like, ‘No,’ and he’s like, ‘I haven’t gotten an offer,’” she said on the podcast, via Digital Spy. “And so around us, everyone is hugging and high-fiving. I mean, it felt like balloons were dropping from the ceiling. Everybody was so f-cking pumped. And he and I just kind of sat there and we knew it was coming.”
While at the time Hilarie considered it a betrayal, she’s moved on from that and well, we all should too.
“My life is awesome because of that betrayal,” she explained. “I met my husband, I had my kids, I got to do White Collar with Willie Garson. My life is so much better because I was betrayed here. And that’s the thing that maybe I want anybody that listens to this to walk away with. It’s like the betrayal just opened the door for all the awesome s-it that I have now.”
We’re glad that she got her happy ending, because she deserves that. While we would have loved more of Lucas and Peyton’s story, we know that everything happens for a reason.
