Chicago Fire 11×06 “All-Out Mystery” is once again about Kelly Severide playing Fire Cop, except this time he gets to play Fire Cop with his wife, instead of Wendy Seager. And, it turns out that adding Stella to the mix actually makes Fire Cop Severide kind of interesting. Who would have guessed?
Us. We could have told you this.
One Chicago in general, and Chicago Fire in particular, has lost a lot of what has made the show comforting in the last few seasons. First, it was Casey. Then it was Hawkins. Not to mention the relationships those two men were in, and the sense of family the show had created around them. It’s been hit after hit for fans who love this show, and this episode seems to understand all we’ve lost as it attempts to focus on the best of what we have left.
Stellaride. The 51 family. Cruz and Chloe.
Is it enough? That’s a harder question to answer, and it might depend on how well the show can keep the focus on the things we still care about. But for this hour, it felt like it was. And right now, all we can do is take it one day at a time as we try to find a new normal within the world of Chicago Fire. So, let’s talk about what worked and what we’re still a little iffy on as we review Chicago Fire 11×06 “All-Out Mystery”:
WHAT IS FAMILY?

It was too good to be true at first, which means we should have never trusted it. Problems never go away that easily in real life, they weren’t gonna go away that easily on Chicago Fire. And there are two options here, a good one and a really, really bad one.
The good one is that Chicago Fire just wants to spend more time on this storyline. That they’re going to focus on how Chloe and Joe can make this work, and we’re gonna get more happy family moments like Javi asking Joe if he can start calling him dad. That the show is going to give us more of Joe and Chloe – more of the family they’ve created. That they’re not going to just be treated as plot points to be brought in for added drama. That, instead, the show is committing to their family.
And the bad one …well, the bad one is that this is just another storyline of a broken family, of a kid that could have had parents and now just won’t because One Chicago doesn’t believe in that, just believes in drama for the sake of drama. Let us hope it’s not that one, but how can we trust them at this point? How?
BEST. PARTNER

Stellaride is the good part of this episode because Stellaride is the best part of Chicago Fire right about now. Kudos to the show for recognizing that. Every episode should have them working together in one way or another, sharing quiet moments while in the Firehouse and then not-so-quiet romantic moments at home. Because yes, ships do carry shows. And Stellaride is the best thing this show has right now, and one of the best things One Chicago has.
It’s not rocket science. For shows to work, we have to care. For us to care, we have to have an emotional connection. If you keep killing the characters we care about and the ships we are invested in — not to mention delivering painful storyline after painful storyline for pretty much everyone else, pretty soon, we won’t really care. And when we don’t …we just won’t watch.
So yes, more Stellaride. Make them bulletproof. Nothing can touch them. They cannot even have one tiny spat. They’re holding this show, and this franchise together right about now. Do not touch them.
Things I think I think:
- Any scene with more than 3 regulars feels like a treat.
- Man could INDEED be a serial killer for all you know.
- Every so often Chicago Fire will deliver scenes that make you really stop and think about what it means to be a first responder and walk into danger every day to save others. It’s pretty remarkable.
- Dad Cruz is giving me FEELS. And Chloe, too. This Javi storyline is one of my favorite things the show has done in a while.
- Look, we never get enough Herrmann for the amount of Herrmann that’s a good amount of Herrmann.
- One Chicago not pulling ANY punches when it comes to healthcare today. First Chicago Med, now Chicago Fire.
- “Go get the evidence.”
- “I have never in my life finished one of your sentences.” Ritter, I love you.
- I need a sticker with Stella Kidd’s not impressed face at every word that came out of this guy’s mouth.
- I mean, sorry Seaver, but I like this much better.
- SEXY STELLARIDE MAKEOUT SCENE YAY.
- Stop trying to make Carver happen, Chicago Fire. It ain’t gonna happen.
