Enola Holmes 2 has already arrived on our screens! There is a popular saying that sequels are not good. But whoever said it didn’t see Enola Holmes 2 because the movie far surpasses the first part and improves it in every way. Time for a review! Ready?
Here we go!
Don’t Fight so Hard to Prove Yourself, Enola

That dialogue can only be from a privileged man who is so used to his privilege that he doesn’t even realize how cocky he sounds. And that man is Sherlock Holmes. We love him but yeah, in Enola Holmes 2 we would have kicked his ass more than once.
At first, Sherlock doesn’t respect Enola or her work. He still believes that everything is a whim for Enola and that she gets in trouble just for doing it. He thinks Enola was bored and thought she wanted to be a detective and went that route.
So when everything gets too complicated in Enola Holmes 2 and Enola is in danger, Sherlock arrives willing to pull her away and save the day, almost as if he’s getting a brat out of trouble. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Sherlock doesn’t know Enola if he thinks being a detective is just a whim for her or that she’s going to sit tight while he plays the hero. Being a detective is part of who Enola is, just like it’s part of who Sherlock is. And Enola’s actions show Sherlock just how wrong he is.
Go Big, Go Holmes in Enola Holmes 2

Enola, for her part, is reluctant to accept Sherlock’s help because she feels as if it means proving everyone who doubts her right. Enola wants to build her own path and she needs to show everyone what she is capable of. For Enola, accepting Sherlock’s help would not only prove right to those who doubt her, including her own brother but also to be in his shadow.
In the end, as always, when the two big heads allow themselves to be helped, they get what they resisted so much. Sherlock helps Enola with her case and she does the same. Both brothers outperform the other in Enola Holmes 2. And Sherlock is smart enough to notice and not only respect but admire Enola. That’s why he offers Enola to share an agency.
But that is not an option for Enola. She loves her brother but she knows that if they got together she would always be in his shadow. And that’s not what she wants. Enola wants to follow and forge her own path. Although that doesn’t mean that the two brothers are strangers again. They both learned that lesson.
Our Ship Came to Serve in Enola Holmes 2

We love Enola and Tewkesbury together. Every scene of them is magnificent. He is clear that he wants to be with Enola and, although she wants nothing more than to be with him, she resists. Enola is afraid of losing her independence if she gets carried away.
Enola lives in a society where women have little choice but to marry and have children. She managed to break the mold regarding the supposed role that she should follow but something serious with Tewkesbury would be like retracing all the steps.
Society in itself is conservative and stifling with women and the Tewkesbury circle is even more so. He is fighting to change that and Enola knows it, but she also knows that there is a long way to go before the roles in society change.
So Enola decides to ignore him. Only she can’t quite do it and we see in Enola Holmes 2 how she keeps an eye on him. At least, from a distance, she wants to see him. Events precipitate not only the meeting between the two but Tewkesbury ends up fully involved in the case in a way that neither expected. This means Enola is forced to deal with her feelings for him.
Fear Paralyzes…and Good Advice Helps

Enola is so afraid of losing everything she has fought for, everything her mother taught her… but, at the same time, she can’t help but feel what she feels. What she feels is so strong that Enola is afraid to name it. She just knows that she can’t see Tewkesbury near any woman without wanting to kill him.
But her fear paralyzes her to the point of not understanding a message that Tewkesbury shows only to her. Only when she is ready in Enola Holmes 2 she can understand it and put a name to what she feels. Only when Tewkesbury, stumbling, embarrassed, is vulnerable and opens her heart to her, even though she doesn’t feel the same way. But she does.
Enola needed to listen to her mother’s advice to embrace her feelings for Tewkesbury and be able to accept how she feels about him. She needed those words to finally dare to live life next to Tewkesbury.
Eudoria made Enola understand that creating emotional bonds means sacrificing her independence. On the contrary, it means rowing together. It’s then that Enola can accept that Tewkesbury can be not only an ally but a life partner if she accepts him. And she does, she embraces what she feels for him and gives him her hand, deciding never to let him go. And the best part is that Tewkesbury isn’t planning on doing it either.
Do You Get It?

We love the way Eudoria intertwines with the story in Enola Holmes 2. She is there for Enola in every way that she needs. Eudoria taught Enola not only to know how to defend herself in a world of men but also to see the world from a different perspective. Eudoria’s teachings accompanied Enola all her life and get her out of more than one problem.
Enola Holmes 2 perfectly shows how Enola is the result of her mother’s upbringing. Yeah, Eudoria raised a woman who doesn’t stay quiet and who gets into all the trouble it takes to discover the truth and fight for what she believes. Eudoria raised an independent and strong woman, with a certain disdain for rules when necessary. And we wouldn’t have her any other way.
But independence has a less bright side. Eudoria raised all of her children to be independent, but when they grew up, they mistook independence for loneliness. And they are not the same. Being independent doesn’t mean not having emotional ties with anyone. That’s a lesson that both Enola and Sherlock learned in Enola Holmes 2.
Enola learned to identify her allies and let herself be helped. She also learned that doing that doesn’t make her incapable or weak, on the contrary, it makes her stronger. As for Sherlock, he learned that he must let people into his life, not just his family, but open up to the world. The world may surprise him. And we are very proud of our babies.
Moriarty in Enola Holmes 2

In Enola Holmes 2, nothing is as you expect. And while there are several villains in this story, one of them stands out above the rest: Moriarty. Moriarty is, to a large extent, what circumstances have made of her. She only played by the same rules as the men, taking advantage of the fact that she was invisible to them because she was a woman.
She took advantage of that invisibility to explore all of her abilities and use them for her benefit and have fun in the process. Then everything got complicated and she kept going the only way she thought she could. Moriarty is machiavellian because she didn’t care about collateral damage as long as she got her way. But it’s her motivations that are the most interesting about her.
Her actions are like a mockery of men and a society that only believes her capable of marrying and having children. But the truth is that she can handle them all with one finger. The challenge to Sherlock and Enola was an added incentive because, for the first time, Moriarty felt that she was facing an equal.
Moriarty’s escape gives us the possibility of seeing a new confrontation between her and the Holmes brothers in an upcoming film. And we can’t wait!
You Speak With One Voice in Enola Holmes 2

The feminist undertone in Enola Holmes 2 is an intrinsic part of the story. Enola begins fighting alone against a world that doesn’t understand her and doesn’t accept her for being a woman. No one takes her seriously or believes her capable just because they consider her to be a woman and, on top of that, too young.
Only a girl can trust her to solve the disappearance of her sister. The villains of the story are men who underestimate strong, brave, and powerful women by treating them as if they were objects that they could possess, control, mistreat, and kill at will, either to fatten their wallets or their fragile male ego.
But the important thing in Enola Holmes 2 is the heroines. And we are not only referring to Enola but to each woman in this story because each of them fights against the system on their own terms.
Sarah’s fight reminds us of the labor struggles that managed to win rights for workers. Most of them were led and freed thanks to brave women who risked everything, even their lives, to tell the truth, and fight for what is fair, not only for them but for generations to come.
Union makes force. It’s all about speaking with one voice and, thanks to that, the system lost and they won. We win. This story brought tears to my eyes and I loved it because I felt proud to be a woman and feel how powerful we are without most of the time realizing it. More stories like this, feminist and brilliantly told, please.
