There’s An Update On The ‘Lizzie McGuire’ Reboot

If I hadn’t prepaid for three years of Disney Plus, I may have found myself cancelling it by now. I look at the app on my TV and I want to click it, but I am so irritated with Disney over their whole not wanting to keep up with the real world and their “family friendly programming.”

I wonder who the hell that they are that they think they can define what family friendly is. As if we all don’t have our own opinions on what defines family friendly.

But let me break it down – family is not like Leave It To Beaver. That shit is outdated. And we should be embracing the complexity of family. We should be embracing it in all its forms.

We should be embracing life in all its forms.

My frustration with Disney Plus started with Love, Victor which I thought was great, but also thought that they made that show try to be like the shows of the 80’s – all Boy Meets World, with a lesson each episode.

And I am not having it.

But what has made me even more angry is the way that Disney is treating the Lizzie McGuire reboot. She’s grown. She’s going through shit. She’s experiencing life in all of its complexity.

And Disney Plus seems to have a lot of issues with characters growing like they would in real life.

But what Disney seems to be doing is moving the shows that aren’t “family friendly” to Hulu and Craig Erwich, Hulu’s head of original content, while talking with Vanity Fair, talked about the possibility of the Lizzie McGuire reboot moving over there.

No shock to me, it’s not what any of us wanted to hear.

“I appreciate her fandom,” he said. “[But] we have not had any conversations with Hilary Duff around her show.”

Ummm excuse me? Duff had previously said, “It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again.”

Why did Hulu and Disney not jump on this? We’re all suffering right now – give us some fucking joy.

You’re supposed to do that Disney. I am pretty sure that is what the intention Walt Disney had – to bring joy to everyone.

Someone call Hillary Duff and make this shit happen!
