There’s a lot we love about One Chicago shows beyond ships but, let’s face it, we can’t live without ships! And couples are important to the emotional development of the characters in Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med, so we’re going to analyze the progress of our beloved ships each week in a roundtable.
All our feels about these ships will be summarized here and we’re only going to dedicate ourselves to them for, you know, reasons … but you can check our full reviews if you want much more. And now, let’s take a look at the love lives of our favorite firefighters, cops and doctors!
We started with Chicago Fire which showed us an episode where *almost* everything fell apart. What do you think it means to Brettsey that they are stating that Hawkins is Violet’s love interest? Is it a declaration of intent? Stellaride is not communicating at all, in all respects, is this just a temporary bump?
Raquel: I think that Chicago Fire sent a clear message with this Hawkins thing. This was the perfect time to send a message to the fandom about what they are doing with Brettsey’s future. It was very easy to bring Hawkins and Brett closer to prepare the ground for a future relationship.
But they have not done that, if not quite the opposite. They have approached Hawkins to another woman.
When they had a choice, the writers decided to preserve Brettsey and keep it safe. I don’t think there is any clearer message than that about what they have planned for Brettsey.
I’m begging Stellaride to communicate, for God’s sake. It’s just…we need to see Stella’s point of view in all of this. We understand how Severide feels and why he feels this way and it’s time to look at what’s happening from the prism of Stella’s version. Every story has two faces, and Stellaride is no exception.
It would be great if Stellaride had a real heart-to-heart talk about what happened between them and where they are going now but this is a tv show, a midseason finale and we need drama for drama’s sake (weary sigh here) so we can’t wait for that. But I look forward to it in the next few episodes, they deserve it… and they need it.
Lizzie: I was never really worried about Hawkins, and I admit I quite like him as Violet’s love interest — albeit a temporary one. But I do agree that they could have used Hawkins to move on from Brettsey, and they very clearly chose not to. They made a decision to stick to Brettsey, even without Matt being around. And that means something. In fact, it means a lot.
As fcr Stellaride, it’s super frustrating that we got NOTHING. Absolutely nothing, other than those looks. That’s the part I’m gah about. Sure, they’re not communicating, but we really don’t know more than that, and it’s annoying. And if we know something, it’s what Kelly feels. In fact, this whole storyline about Stella has been told mostly from Kelly’s POV, and that’s incredibly upsetting. If we’re going to deal with Stella’s fears, Stella’s decisions, then I’d like to hear from Stella.
I deserve to hear from her. No one else.
Lyra: Hawkins has nothing to do with Brettsey. Simple and to the point. Whether they’re going to stay together or not has nothing to do with him. Seriously, not worried at all. As for Stellaride, at this point I don’t even want to hear anything besides her side of the story.
As a counterpart, we have Chicago PD. UPSTEAD ARE MARRIED! UPSTEAD. ARE. MARRIED. Breakdown all your feels for these two!
Raquel: I’M ON CLOUD 9!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wasn’t expecting this but it’s just… perfect. I mean, a part of me expected to see the whole team clapping at the Upstead wedding and that part of me resents that didn’t happen but another part of me likes everything just the way it is.
The parties, the celebrations are only for the benefit of others. When you love someone, you don’t need anything but that special person to link your life to him/her. Upstead didn’t need more than each other, just to look at each other and lose themselves in each other’s eyes, just for the other to hear what they feel. They don’t need anyone or anything else.
And the way everything happened. After everything they went through together, they just … they just wanted to reaffirm what they felt and that nothing between them had changed. So they didn’t hesitate to just do it, reaffirm the commitment that exists between them, and recommit to each other. Forever.
Perfectly beautiful.
Lizzie: It was perfectly Upstead, I want to start there. It could have been no other way, not for them. A part of me would have loved to see the team too, but we didn’t need them. Upstead didn’t need them. Their entire relationship has been about how they are each other’s person, how they are what the other person needs to be better, to do better. And their wedding didn’t need to be about anything but that.
So often weddings are about other people. And Upstead didn’t want that. They wanted their wedding to be about them and only them. Later, their life together, that can include other people. And hopefully they will let other people know and celebrate them, because they deserve it. Love like theirs should always be celebrated. For now, though …it’s not necessary.
I’ve already gone over the storyline and the feelings and the relief in my review, so right now I just kind of want to celebrate how far they’ve come. A lost girl and a lost boy no longer, Upstead has found home in each other. The rest is just paperwork. That’s what matters.
Lyra: All I can think about is how important it is to show relationships like this on TV. Relationships that go through ups, downs, and twists. But that stay strong throughout it all. And I’m with Lizzie on wishing and hoping that the rest of the team could be there. But I have to take into consideration Covid restrictions and not them hiding it from their team. It’s just how things are now and we need to focus on the love more than anything else.
As for Chicago Med, this show got us excited again! Did you expect good decisions from Will? What do you say about that look from Stevie to Will? And what about that thing between Marcel and Blake?
Raquel: The truth is that I didn’t expect good decisions from Will since… yeah since the show began. But this year Med and especially Will are determined to surprise me and I love it! So, good job, Med! And Will… I’m rooting for you!
Marcel and Blake… let’s see what happens here, although I think it will be more problems than benefits. But, hey, Med has proven to me this year that I was wrong in everything I assumed about this show so they may surprise me again.
And now, that look! Sometimes a look says a lot more than thousands of words, especially that kind of look. Excited for what awaits us with these two!
Lizzie: Maybe I can start sort of cautiously trusting Will? I’m as shocked as the next person, because Will has disappointed me many times, but if this episode proves something is that even Will can change. And I’m immensely proud of that.
As for Stevie, well, I think perhaps she’s starting to see WIll and a new light, and hey, I’m here for that.
What I’m not here for is the love triangle between Marcel/Blake and her daughter. Hell, no. No no no Crockett. No. Pick one. Be honest. Don’t let this get messy.
Lyra: Will? Good decisions? This a trick or something? Hmmmm. But honestly, I’ve been surprised by bigger and more disappointing characters. Maybe he’ll change or something. Who knows. Maybe we’ll see the good bits more and more as the show progresses. Maybe as we trust him more, so will Stevie. As for the love triangle. Nah. Not today. Not ever.
